Six weeks before wedding - fell and hit my face

KarenO, on May 17, 2018 at 12:03 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 42

Hi, I'm pretty upset today. Last night I tripped and fell and landed on my face. Thankfully I didn't mess up any teeth, but I broke my nose (minor fracture), hurt my lip and have pretty bad like, road rash I guess, between my upper lip and my nose. (I don't want to post a photo.)

I was taking my dogs out to do their business, twisted my ankle and just fell. Since I had a leash in each hand, I wasn't able to break my fall. We went to the emergency room last night and were there for 5 hours. Thankfully, I didn't need any stitches.

Anyway, apart from just posting to vent and work through my feelings a bit, I was hoping someone could give me advice about helping my face heal as fast as possible. One person recommended vitamin E and/or Neosporin. Any other tips? Thanks! (FH left the after-care instructions with our ride, so I haven't been able to read them yet. I should get them later today.)

And, my hair trial was supposed to be today. Obviously I'm cancelling. It sucks that I'll still have to pay for it, but I understand why. The fact that my injuries could have been a lot worse is about the only thing keeping me from just sitting here and crying. Thanks again for any advice.

Aww I am so sorry that it happened to you but better now than six days before the wedding right! Try to think of it that way to cheer you up a bit.

My suggestions is to use petroleum jelly to keep the wound soft while forming a a scab. This will help with scarring. Also, you can use bio-oil (one it heals) which worked wonders for me!

Thanks. I just got the after-care instructions and they don't even say anything about caring for my face wound. For me, it's the worst and most painful part of it. I might feel differently once I start to get black eyes from the broken nose.

    Anyway, thanks for the advice!

I've broken my nose several times. All u can do is drink milk and if u have cuts, use some neosporin. Otherwise, ice ice ice for the first 48 hours. 20 on 20 min off. It will definitely be fine in time! Smiley smile

Awww I'm sorry, that's terrible! I know you must be freaking out right now, but 6 weeks is a good chunk of time for it to heal. And even if there are still faint signs of an injury on your wedding day, your MUA should have no problem covering it up for you. Be happy you didn't break any teeth, because that would've been way worse! Definitely recommend Neosporin, get the one with pain relief added in, and get it in the cream form, not the ointment, because the cream will actually absorb into your skin. The ointment form leaves a visibly greasy residue on the area.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Your black eyes should be gone within 2 weeks, also most swelling in that time frame also. Try to avoid applying pressure or using a lot of make up. Use ice compresses often

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I feel your pain because I just had gum surgery that made my face swell up pretty bad. I'm also on steroids which can make your face puffy too. All I could think about was my big swollen face in wedding pictures and it got me pretty upset. You spend so much time and money to make everything perfect and to think about how the pictures will look if everything is not healed. The good thing is that you have time to healSmiley smile I know it looks bad to you right now, but it WILL heal and be better for your wedding daySmiley smile My FH made me feel better by saying that we could always retake pictures if my face is not back to normal on our wedding day. Finally, I always like to remind myself that these are first world problems and how blessed I amSmiley winking Good luck and God speed on your healing.

Oh no, I'm so sorry this happened!Smiley sad 6 weeks seems to go by so fast especially with wedding planning but for healing 6 weeks is a lot of time. I would definitely keep putting Neosporin and Vitamin E oil on it to heal the scrapes and prevent any scaring. As well constantly keep icing it!

I have a tiny scar on my cheek (more on my mind than on my cheek) and talked to the pharmacist after it healed. If I remember right she said that Bio Oil works better but you want to use it when it's still fresh. On a healed up wound like mine she recommended Mederma.

I'm one of those weird natural people. Honestly, this is what I use to heal quickly. I've noticed that when I have a cut and don't use it, the cut takes much longer to heal, and doesn't heal as pretty as when I do use it.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I'm mostly angry at myself for being such a klutz, but I know it could've been a lot worse, so I'm grateful for that.

I do have Neosporin with pain relief (ointment form) so started using that. I also have cream Neosporin to use when that runs out. The hospital gave me some cold packs, and say to use them for 20 minutes every 1-2 hours for my nose, so I'll follow that too.

Thankfully I have a job where I can work from home, though I took today off. We'll see how bad I look by Tuesday, when I usually go back in the office.

I knew a girl who had a large cut on her arm that she needed stitches for. The emt tech told her to get Advil liquors gels and cut them open in a small bowl- use a Qtip to rub a little of the liquid on to her cut 1x/day and it would heal without a scar. She has a scar but it’s so minor you wouldn’t see it unless she told you it was there.

I’m so so sorry. My advice is to drink a lot of water to keep your skin hydrated and if you can eat yogurt try and eat yogurt with the “live cultures”. The natural antibiotics helps your body heal faster. Good luck with everything!

Sorry to read this! 6 weeks is quite a bit of time to heal, I think. A few years back I had plastic surgery to remove the bags under my eyes and had pretty extensive bruising on my face and it was healed/gone within a month. I used the neosporin that many others suggested. I also took a herbal supplement called Arnica which supposedly heals bruising faster (it's herbal so there really isn't good effectiveness data). However I took it as I figured why not try anything that could help? I would ice 20 minutes on/20 minutes off for the first full 48 hours! Good Luck

Also, applying rubbing alcohol directly onto any bruising really helps to clear it up faster. I've done this all my life and it does work.

Oh man! So sorry to hear! Good news is that you should be mostly healed up by the time of your wedding. I had an accident with a horse and tree a few years ago and cut my face up horribly. It was also summer and didn’t want scarring and different color in skin and scar tissue. I religiously put Zinc on the actually cuts on my face when in the sun and used bacitracin, neosporin, and tons of vitamin e throughout the day. I just massaged that onto all of my cuts to break down scar tissue. Good luck with everything. Feel better, get rest and of course try not to stress...hardest thing to do, I know. But just try to do it! Do some meditation or yoga!

OH no! That's 100% something I would do. I actually broke a finger playing kickball and then broke my toe on a computer 3 days later so I'm a super klutz. Thank heavens the wedding is 6 weeks away and not 6 days!

So sorry to hear this happened! I actually had a similar-result accident a few years ago — had a seizure where I fell straight on my face from a standing up position, resulting in 2 black eyes, fat lip and nose (amazingly not broken), and rug burn on multiple parts of my face, including in that upper-lip space.

It was horrifying and I was terrified about how it would heal. I did exactly what people are saying here — frequent icing and CONSTANT neosporin (like, if you are not in public, put more bro on). Avoid wearing makeup over the open cuts even when you go out, as that will delay healing. (For the black eyes, I had someone at Sephora recommend a heavy duty concealer and constantly wore giant sunglasses). I did all that, and I looked fine within a month. I could still tell where things had happened (like slight red marks where fresh skin grew in), but you will always be the first to notice things like that. Within 6 weeks, your MUA will be able to cover minor stuff. Eventually, for me, it went away completely.

    good luck!!
