Size up pave engagement ring leaving room for future size fluctuations?

Louisa, on October 17, 2023 at 12:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 1
I got my dream pave engagement ring and went to get sized in peak summer when my fingers were swollen, where I sized as a 5 (EU 49) comfortably, with a 4.5 (EU 48) fitting but snug. I decided to go with a 5 leaving room for future space in case my fingers get bigger or the knuckle gets larger when I’m old, given the ring could only be resized once.

It arrived and it’s too big, especially as it’s gotten cold. I am now having resized down to a 4 and 2/4 (EU 48.5) but am borderline thinking it should be a 4.5 (EU 48) or it might still be too big.
I’m torn between making it fit nice and snug enough now, and ensuring I can wear it forever even if my finger expands. Considering getting sizing balls put in later to bridge my dilemma, but would rather the ring fits perfectly than have to tweak.
What do you recommend in your experience?

I had a somewhat similar experience and I ended up sizing down which I'm really happy about. Whatever you measured at in the summer should be fine (4.5). I personally do not like the feel of a sizing ball, but a lot of people do suggest it for this reason. The only time my ring is really snug is if I've gained weight and am flying or something that would lead to extra swelling. I also feel that after wearing it for a while your finger kind of naturally makes that indent on your ring finger, if that makes sense? I'm not sure that's scientific but it seems that way lol
