Skincare Routine for Dry Skin

Charli, on January 18, 2018 at 2:51 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 29

I've been wanting to change up my skincare routine so I figured getting started a few months before the wedding would be best. I have eczema and cystic acne. My doctor put me on birth control which has helped tremendously with the breakouts. I usually don't have a problem with breaking out but my skin is still sensitive and will break out easily if I use a product with too many chemicals in it. I drink 80-90oz of water a day and I currently use Cetaphil face wash, Bio-oil for my acne scars, Mary Kay moisturizer, and Neutrogena sunscreen. It was working for me but it seems not to have much of an effect for me lately. Anyone have any must have beauty products? I could also use a recommendation for a good peel or scrub. This cold weather has been rough on my skin and I have dry patches everywhere.

I would HIGHLY recommend Caroline Hirons blog and Stephanie Nicoles youtube channel. They both know what they are talking about when it comes to skincare and you can learn a lot. Stephanie recently did a budget skincare routine video that I think you would benefit from since all of those products you mentioned above are all drugstore.

I also use hormonal BC to help with acne, it’s great! I personally use Aczone for the trouble areas and/or if I feel a zit coming on but I only use it when necessary! I recently started doing a new skincare regimen and I love it! I have dry skin and rosacea on my face so I am now using REN Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk followed by REN Evercalm Anti-redness serum followed by REN Evercalm Global protection day cream. I got them at Sephora so they’re a bit expensive but I love them!

I’ve heard really great things about Korean skincare. It’s super involved but you don’t have to buy or use everything in the full 10+ step routine. I’d google Korean skincare and see what you find. I actually just ordered a few products this week and can’t wait to see the results! Also, what’s worked best for me is using mostly natural products like witch hazel as a toner and sometimes jojoba or coconut oils as moisturizers or makeup removers. . I’m a huge fan of the “Yes to...” and Burt’s Bees brands. Their products are nearly or all-natural. But since everyone’s skin is different, it might be best to consult a dermatologist or esthetician.

FH was put on a medication that makes his skin dry. I saw that there is this brand that is very helpful for dry skin - Cetaphil. He uses the cleanser and the moisturizer twice a day.

I have dry skin and when I did my makeup trial, my MUA recommended using Radha Rosehip Oil as a moisturizer in the evenings, and when my wedding came around 2 months later, we both noticed a difference in my skin.

I really don't do a lot in this department, but just love my face wash. I use the Neutrogena redness soothing cream clenser, and it's incredibly gentle on my face and I hardly get pimples. I highly recommend it.

I used to use the Neutrogena pink grapefruit with microbeads face wash, but after using it a couple years, realized my face was getting very itchy. Around that time, I had seen the redness soothing cream version and decided to try it, and actually didn't like the redness soothing wash that first time. It made my face burn that first time I tried it. I stopped after that one use. However, when I began using the pink grapefruit again, the itching got really bad, especially when I applied my concealer and foundation. It almost seemed like I had developed an allergy to the pink grapefruit wash and/or it was interacting negatively with my makeup. Since I had the redness soothing cream clenser in my bathroom, still, I gave it another try, hoping it would calm the itching. It workd like a charm, and now I swear by it. I no longer have any itching or bad interactions with my makeup (and didn't have to change my makeup at all). My recommendation is to give it more than one shot for it to feel good or clear anything up.

I've heard great things about Korean skincare too but I've just been too lazy to do more research. I know coconut oil is too heavy for my face but I have heard that jojoba is pretty good. I love Burt's Bees chapstick and hand lotion! I haven't really paid much attention to their skincare though.

I use rosehip oil and grapeseed oil as moisturizer, especially during the winter months when my skin gets dry. grapeseed is super light and absorbs well. i'm also a fan of Burt's Bees, their sensitive skin line is amazing.

I am allergic to literally everything when it comes to my skin. I have ended up in the ER many a time from skincare gone wrong. When I feel my skin is particularly dry, I use just a little bit of aquaphor on trouble spots and sleep with it on overnight. It works wonders on my skin and keeps it hydrated.

I have extremely dry skin & I have suffered with eczema, it’s gone now, but I use a tea trea oil face wash & foaming exfoliating scrub from The Body Shop to keep breakouts from occurring BUT tea tree oil is very, very drying so you need to use a hydrating toner/moisturizer after. The Body Shop has an aloe vera line for dry/sensitive skin as well, that may help with this issue. The Body Shop is also cruelty free & isn’t too expensive.

Hey Carli I'm sorry about your skin is going through this. I'm a licensed Esthetican and my skin has been hating the winter too.
Hydration is going to be key no matter what type of skin or concern you have. So serums are going to be your best bet and those you can use morning and night before your moisturizer. Dermalogica is a great brand I've used for years, they do have an ultracalming line which is great for sensitive skin and you can cherry pick from there other sub lines to really customize your at home care based on your concerns. Eminence is a great line to that's going to 100% natural if you'd rather have that!
Good luck, I hope this was somewhat helpful...maybe also getting a facial a couple weeks before you wedding would definitely help!

Aquaphor and cetaphil is amazing for both face wash and moisturizer on my sensative skin!

I went on even acne medication (had face acne, chest acne, back acne) and nothing worked until I went on accutane. I know its too soon now for you to go on it and I' not sure if you are waiting to have babies or starting right away but it seriously changed my life!

I've taken it and it works wonders for me! I can't take it for long because it doesn't act well with my depression but it usually kicks in and clears my skin up pretty fast. We're definitely not planning on kids any time soon so I might talk to my doctor about taking it again for a few months.

Focus on moisturizer because it is the product that’s on your skin the longest. I have pretty sensitive breakout prone skin and Murad skin perfecting lotion is the best for it! It’s lightweight, no perfumes, and makes your skin feel so hydrated. Good luck girl!

Pay attention to your diet and make up brands as well. I recently had a consultation with a local esthetician, who also makes her own skin care line that I have been using for a couple of weeks and loving, but I had no clue how much something even like Biotin can impact your skin. I switched to BareMinerals Original foundation and I feel like that has also been helping.

I think you should really be avoiding products that have SLS or any sulfates on your face. SLS, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is one of the chemicals that creates soap bubbles and the "foam" in foaming cleansers and is incredibly drying and strips your skin like crazy.

I use Paula's Choice (a bit expensive) or Simple (less expensive for travel) and I have great results with both.
