Skip the Hair/makeup Trial?

Laura, on February 12, 2019 at 10:46 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11
So I have been researching hair and makeup for my mom and 2 bridesmaids just to get a price point and to see which company I may like. Wondering if there are an brides to be out there that have chosen to skip the trial for your hair and makeup? I have one company in mind and from their work I've seen it looks amazing, so I'm not sure if I need to pay the extra for the trial too? But I feel like I would also be way too nervous not to go in ahead of time to plan this??

I'm doing a trial because I know myself, and I'd be really uncomfortable going in blind. I want the opportunity to meet my HMUA in person and make sure she understands my vision. Plus, it isn't too expensive ($100) so I just planned it the day before my birthday when FH and I will be having a night out!

I do know, though, that there are brides on WW who skipped/are skipping a HMUA trial - there is nothing wrong with doing that if you're comfortable with it!

I'm a little confuse, are you searching for your mom & bridesmaids or for yourself? If for yourself, I personally would do a trial.....but that is totally up to you. I just wouldn't feel comfortable not knowing if I will like it before hand. If for your mom & bridesmaids, they don't need a trial...and I don't believe it is customary for them to get one.

I’m not doing a trial because I am having my hair stylist do my hair day of and don’t want anything to crazy. I also know my mom (who did hair for 20 years) can fix anything if needed.
I am doing my makeup so I can “trial” at home.
When I was an MUA in Nashville, I had plenty of people not do makeup trials because they just wanted a simple, soft look. If you want something more dramatic. Definitely do a trial.

For me, it was super important to have a trial. I actually did two before even booking, and I'm so glad I did because the first girl who was really nice did not do a good job. But I'm picky with hair and makeup.

I'm doing a trial for me (not for the others) to make sure she understands what I really want. Last time I had my makeup done, I came with pictures, showed the girl what I wanted, described it and the makeup was horrible. I had to take it all off and basically do it myself it was so bad. So, I suggest spending the money, doing a trial for yourself.

I have been researching for me and the bridal party/ my mom. For the trial I was wondering if any brides had skipped that portion. True it sounds best to do a trial I love hair and makeup and I can be somewhat picky as well, I want to absolutely love it!

I didn’t have a trial and it worked out fine. But I wasn’t a picky bride at all and didn’t have inspiration pictures or want to look like a Pinterest picture. I said put my hair half up and do whatever for makeup, I trust you! It worked out but I know a lot of people aren’t like that.

I’m contemplating skipping mine too. I already know what hairstyle I want, one that I’ve had before. As for makeup, I want mines extremely light.

My friend skipped it, her hmua made her hair exactly like her inspiration pic, and she hated it. I would do a trial.

I'm not having an official one with my HMUA due to distance. But I will probably go to sephora for a makeup session just because I'm not sure what would work for me as I dont generally wear too much makeup.

I personally would never skip the trials but I found affordable ones where the trial was included for me and the deposit was small/just for myself since the girls who use the services are paying themselves. I am a makeup fanatic and am pretty set in my ways in terms of products and techniques so if especially the makeup doesn't live up to my standards I need to know that.
