Skipping the flowers?

I'm starting to research florists... and wow... just wow. I was warned that flowers are expensive, but I am still shocked. So far I've received quotes between $2500 and $3000. I've never been into flowers, and I feel like I should spend the money elsewhere (food, transportation for guest, etc.). It is a destination wedding, the venue is outdoors in the middle for the tropical forest, there is a lot of nature surrounding the place.

How crazy would it be to skip the flowers altogether? Any ideas for "replace" flowers? I should note that I don't want to replace natural flowers with silk ones (nothing against this) just looking for alternatives.

Thank you!

Why does that price include? I'd look at skipping centepieces and ceremony flowers then. If your wedding is in the middle of a tropical rain forest then i don't think flowers will really be missed. Just do bridal bouquet, bridesmaids and maybe the groomsman boutonnières. I feel like those are the essentials.

Also to save money you could use the 5 BM bouquets as centerpieces on your 5 tables after the ceremony. Reuse them and don't order additional centerpieces.

I'm skipping flowers for similar reasons but also because I haven't had any luck with florists in my hometown. I'm doing tissue paper flowers for centerpieces and sola flowers for my bouquet (we don't have a bridal party).

We bought sola flower centerpieces for a TOTAL of $300. They are gorgeous.

@Mags where is your wedding? I'm not familiar with anything outside the US but even still the prices you've been quoted for something so simple seems ridiculous. Can you go to another florist? Can you just buy flowers bulk from this florist and form them into a bouquet? I'm not usually a fan of this route but a florist who refuses to work for $1000 is ridiculous to me. Please go to someone else if possible- they shouldn't get your business.

OP, I don't think you have found the right vendor if they aren't willing to itemize their costs....That is absurd. Are there other florists you can check with in the area? Don't work with vendors that act like this. That is unprofessional and unreliable. I know planning from a distance is tough.

For reference I spent about 3k on florals for our wedding in ATL and it included my bouquet, 7 BM bouquets, 2 flower crowns and flowers for flower girls, 11 boutonnieres, 3 corsages, 10 floral and lantern centerpieces, a 20 foot garland for the head table, a big floral wreath for the ceremony and arrangements for the escort cards and guestbook tables....plus all set up and delivery.

Are there any other florists in the area? I would research and find someone willing to work with your budget. Unless you are very particular with what you want, a florist can typically make suggestions and work within your defined budget.

There are lots of ideas on Pinterest to replace flowers. However, if you don't mind a little DIY, Sam's club has very reasonable prices on flowers, which is what I'm planning on doing.
