Sleeping with your ring...

FMR2018, on January 5, 2017 at 11:07 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 227

So quick poll...I have a gorgeous ring that I never want to take off. Who here sleeps with their rings on or doesn't and why? What's the protocol here?

I do. I see no reason to take it off. I've never had an issue, BUT I do know some people's hands swell at night, and that is a good reason to take it off. Mine don't, so it isn't an issue for me.

I sleep with mine on. Typically things say not to because the ring could catch on something and snag, messing up the ring.

I don't take my ring off unless I'm cooking something like raw chicken, beef or fish. Other than that it stays on.

I sleep with mine just because if I take it off I forget to put it back on (I literally never take it off. I shower in it, workout in it, etc.) However, I can totally see why people don't sleep in it. (Scratch your face, risk losing it, etc.)

The only time I take my ring off is when I'm showering or putting products in my hair.

I sleep with it on. I only really take my ring off for work and to shower.

I do, but there's no reason why, and I don't think there's any protocol. Don't wear it when you wash dishes, use cheap hand soap with it on, or wear it in any large body of water/in the shower if you have a slightly open drain. Those are my only pieces of advice to you.

I used to sleep with it on, but I got a ring holder for Christmas and FH is worried it'll get snagged on something so I stopped.

That's what I was thinking. My ring from my last relationship fell apart and lost stones at night (Should have been a sign) lol. I think I'm just paranoid about damaging this gorgeous gift from my love.

I take mine off at night along with all my other jewelry. I'm a fidgeting sleeper so anything can bug me in the middle of the night! I always remember to put it back on in the morning though. Part of my morning routine.

I sleep with mine on. I really only take it off to shower, hike/workout, or if I am mixing dough or something like that.

I don't wear my ring (or any jewelry) when I sleep; my fingers swell. I also tend to take them off when cooking, doing dishes and showering.

I sleep with mine on. I take it off when showering and getting ready in the morning, or cooking when I have to get my hands messy.

Sometimes my hands swell when I sleep so I take it off but for the most part I sleep with it on.

I sleep with it on. Might scratch my man every now and then, but he understands :-)

The jeweler recommended not to wear engagement rings when you sleep, wash dishes or shower when we looked at rings. It may not cause a problem - however over time it could damage the integrity of the ring (the metal, loosening the stones) per our jeweler. I didn't do a lot of research - but I took it for face value, it's not going to hurt my ring to take it off - and take it off every night when I sleep.

I dont unless I just happen to fall asleep, but my fingers swell at night so I tend to take it off as soon as I get in the house. Also, I hate cooking with it on.
