Small engagement rings unite!

I recently saw a Facebook post that's been floating around in my feed. It's a picture of a girl wearing a small solitaire diamond engagement ring. I recently saw a Facebook post that's been floating around in my feed. It's a picture of a girl wearing a small solitaire diamond engagement ring. The caption read: "If he proposed to you with this, would you say yes?" I was saddened and shocked by all the girls who said "NO!" See, my engagement ring was a little marquise diamond, probably about .26 carats. I absolutely LOVED it, and with the wedding band, I LOVE it all the more! (To put it in my husbands words, he wanted to "put a crown" on my finger, and gave me a "crown fitted for a queen!") I remember back when I got engaged, people seemed so disappointed when they saw my e-ring. "Is this really what you wanted?" "Do you plan on upgrading it?" The best compliment I received was "Oh..! It's so you..."

I kinda wanted to make a "small engagement ring pride-post" for you gals out there that love their little rings but feel like society is telling them that a ring has to prove their worth. PS, you are more worthy than any e-ring!!

@Hannah Beautiful rings! My wedding "band" will be a sapphire solitaire. When we get married I'll move my aliança to my left hand and add the sapphire to the same hand. I didn't want a diamond (although the ring I chose ended up having diamonds around the center stone). Sapphire is DH's birthstone and there's actually a long history of men giving their girlfriends/fiancées/wives blue sapphires before going on long distance trips, so it's perfect for our story/relationship....and it incorporates a bit of the American engagement tradition. Smiley smile my phone doesn't want to let me post a picture of my set. Smiley sad

I love my small and simple e-ring! When we went to a jewelry store to try things on, the sales guy was dumbfounded when I kept asking for something smaller and more plain haha. I didn't feel like anyone judged how small it was thank goodness, most everyone I showed commented how perfectly it complimented my personality. Couldn't imagine having any other ring on my finger! (I've posted a pic of it before but here it is again!).

I absolutely love everyone's rings. I think that they are all special in their own way. I've never made a comment to anyone about their ring size. It doesn't even matter. It is sad that people are made to feel bad about what they have...sad. So so sad.

Here is mine. It's perfect for me and he picked it out all on his own. The inside has two small diamonds and engraved is past present future. It's so pretty.

You have no idea how happy this thread made me. I’ve honestly been a little self-conscious about the size of mine which is SO terrible because I know it’s not small, but society kind of tells us this is a “small” ring.

I have two circles of friends. To one circle, my ring is considered pretty big, but the other group of friends it’s considered average/small. One of those friends got a 2 carat ring with a halo and it’s absolutely beautiful, but yeah… something like that wasn’t exactly in FH’s budget (we’re 24/25 for crying out loud!) and I’m totally okay with that haha. So I don’t know if mine is exactly small or not, but I know it’s not big. I’ve never gotten a rude comment about it though, all the feedback I’ve gotten has been very positive!

The center stone is around 3/4 carats but of course the halo makes it look bigger. My fingers are on the chubbier side though so I think it’s a good size for me and I absolutely love it. Smiley smile

ETA: I can't even fathom someone thinking it's okay to make a comment about someone's ring size being too small, or asking them if they're going to upgrade. WTF?!

Although my ring isn't "small" the amount of diamonds is. They are also not super high quality because we wanted to stay inexpensive. I really just wanted something unique and intricate and he knocked the ball out of the park! I've gotten some comments where I can tell people don't like it but I love it. =]

My center stone is fairly small but the clarity is a VS2 and its .9 carat which is pretty good to me! The whole e-ring is about 2 carats

It looks really big on the picture but its not

Ladies your rings are all beautiful! This is an interesting topic because two rings of the exact same carat weight can appear to be completely different sizes depending on the cut. Some rings will be cut deeper giving them the appearance of a smaller surface size and some will be more shallow giving them a larger surface size. This is why the 4 c's are so important when purchasing a stone. Regardless, everyone's rings are such beautiful representations of your commitment to your future spouse. Love them!

Like a lot of other people, I've got small fingers. I wanted something that was proportioned to my finger/hand. Early in the ring buying process I tried on 1 and 2 carat rings, more for fun. Both looked overpowering for my hand. I remember turning to my FH and saying "you're welcome". I love my ring with the uniqueness of the band. We're not even doing a wedding band. This is a one and done ring. I've gotten so many compliments on my ring. With the majority of the comments being "its you". Center stone size is about .73-.75

I love this post. Honestly, I sometimes judge people with huge rings (even though I shouldn't). It just seems wasteful to me to have an engagement ring that cost as much as my car. I was all about the design when we were looking at rings. I loved halos. leaf designs, and pretty designs from the side view. Somehow, DH found one with all 3. It's .75 carats (with a 1/2 carat in the middle) but looks bigger because of the microbeading on the design. Its the perfect size for my tiny finger and I'm more proud of my DH for finding the perfect ring for us, rather than him buying the most expensive one he could find.

My diamond is over a carat and honestly- it's a little to big (tall) for day to day wear- but I love it b/c WE picked it out.

He picked out the first one- and it was... ahem- not doable for me- not because it was to small- but it wasn't me- and it looked like a vajayjay. which made us chuckle.

It was small and petite marquise cut garnet- he proposed at night and by the morning I considered keeping it because the story was so funny- but we agreed to get a new ring.

I'm glad- it's beautiful I love it. Even though I knock it on EVERYTHING. Bigger definitely isn't better.

@Nicole. Size does not compute to cost. My ring is 1.5 carat center stone and FW's is .75 carats. Her ring cost over 4x as much as mine did due to hers being a diamond and mine being a white sapphire.

I really like this post. It's so funny because I've gotten comments about upgrading too and I think my ring is average size, not small.

Recently I went to zales to get my ring cleaned and I was told one of the small diamonds on the side fell out so I had to send it in and wouldn't get it back for 4 weeks! (finally getting it back next week). So I went on amazon and bought a cheap $10 ring to wear in the meantime. Well, when the ring came it was huge! probably double the size of my e-ring and in my opinion it looks pretty real. I've had a couple of people tell me that my new ring is so much better lol. Of course I tell everyone it's fake and then they feel stupid. But it's crazy how much importance people put on the size of a diamond.

Here's my e-ring. Can't wait to get it back next week Smiley smile ETA: I'm very tiny and have small hands

    Love this POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm on web so the only pic I have is from our proposal pics. FH did an amazing job and followed exactly what I asked (via pinterest LOL) it's about 1.1 ct center stone, no diamond band. I love it. I've gotten a few "how cutes!" which is fine because I know what I wanted and also how much we have in the bank. If I wanted a 15K ring, we could have gotten one, but it's not that important to me/us. I really appreciate this post and love the beautiful and unique rings!!

So just to defend people (myself) who are considering "upgrading" in the future (and not really defend just give another point of view):

For me, my ring was chosen out of practicality. I found it in a bag of costume jewelry; it was my 2xG-aunt's ring and is a quality diamond. It was "free" beyond resizing, redipping, adding spacers(I have big fingers that fluctuate in size... left hand is a 9 to 9.5 and right hand is an 8 to 8.5 depending on the time of day which is why I have to have spacers lol), and joining the bands. DH actually didn't spend any money on my ring. I just did the changes myself because it was my family ring. At the time, we did not see the value of spending money on a ring when we had a perfectly good one available to us.

I love my ring set. LOVE IT. However, I either want to upgrade the center stone or we'll add a second band on the other side. We want to make it our own one day. Not just a family ring that we used, but something we added to.

The size of my ring (or lack there of lol) and the decision to upgrade does not reflect on our relationship.

And, honestly? I see nothing wrong with upgrading. Or not. (I should add I do see something wrong with bitching about your FH's "cheap" "too small" "totally wrong" choice).

ETA: Grammar/spelling. Also, I had a friend upgrade after 16 years of marriage (her DH didn't want to do it on an special anniversary to surprise her lol), and she was really excited.

@Elizabeth - I agree with you. My earlier comment was more about people judging a "smaller" ring or one that is not a diamond and assuming that the person will be 'upgrading" in the future. I don't particularly like that they call it upgrading because I feel like that's implying the original wasn't good enough or something.

I don't think there's anything wrong with upgrading later if you want to, but it is rude for someone to ask if you will be upgrading when you just recently got engaged. Really, who does that?

MY ring is the perfect size for me! I have people ask, "are you going to get a bigger wedding band to make it bigger?" Huh??? I think mine is perfect. The close up looks a little bigger than what I think it looks like IRL. .72 I think?

So I woke up this morning and was like, 81 posts over night?! Whoa!! Smiley laugh

I'm not even done looking through, but hearing your stories and seeing your pictures is so wonderful! I haven't seen a ring so far I don't like. I love unique rings with special stories. It's what makes the ring so special; you know he chose it specifically for you, and he specifically had YOU in mind. To me, that's more romantic than a huge rock. My ring finger is so tiny, so I fall in the band wagon with girls with small hands. Big rings look like cheap costume jewelry on my size 4 ring finger. So the ring he picked it so beautiful and perfect for me! Here's a picture of my bridal set (it's my profile pic but it's hard to see). I love how the wedding band gives my e-ring a "tiara!"
