Small engagement rings unite!

I recently saw a Facebook post that's been floating around in my feed. It's a picture of a girl wearing a small solitaire diamond engagement ring. The caption read: "If he proposed to you with this, would you say yes?" I was saddened and shocked by all the girls who said "NO!" See, my engagement...

I recently saw a Facebook post that's been floating around in my feed. It's a picture of a girl wearing a small solitaire diamond engagement ring. The caption read: "If he proposed to you with this, would you say yes?" I was saddened and shocked by all the girls who said "NO!" See, my engagement ring was a little marquise diamond, probably about .26 carats. I absolutely LOVED it, and with the wedding band, I LOVE it all the more! (To put it in my husbands words, he wanted to "put a crown" on my finger, and gave me a "crown fitted for a queen!") I remember back when I got engaged, people seemed so disappointed when they saw my e-ring. "Is this really what you wanted?" "Do you plan on upgrading it?" The best compliment I received was "Oh..! It's so you..."

I kinda wanted to make a "small engagement ring pride-post" for you gals out there that love their little rings but feel like society is telling them that a ring has to prove their worth. PS, you are more worthy than any e-ring!!

Well, I had the smallest engagement ring possible--none at all! I had a huge rock for my first marriage. I still have nightmares sometimes about being in a high crime area and frantically trying to hide it to keep someone from attacking me to get it. I always worried about it when I was out late at night, in a strange area, etc.

Second time around, I knew I wanted only a wedding ring--and wanted the wedding ring to be a plain gold band. When I proposed to NotFroofy, I asked her whether she'd like an engagement ring, and she said no. (Back in her home town in Wales, it was not the custom to wear them, and she felt like they were too flashy.) However, she had a plain gold band she'd inherited from her grandmother, and that's what she gave me at our wedding.

@Amanda Seeing your picture made me so excited lol! Yes, they are exactly the same, only mine is yellow gold. I love the leaves you added. It's very fitting. My first thought when I saw the wedding band was that it reminded me of a vine. So yes, very fitting! Yours looks absolutely stunning!

I think it depends on what you consider small. I wouldn't even have considered the majority of the rings in this thread on the smaller scale but again, everyone views it differently.

Mine is a .75 in the middle and .25 on each side. He spent not only what he could afford but to get what he liked and thought I would like. I absolutely love my rings together and probably wont upgrade.

ETA: I didn't post on here because I think my ring is small or that its big. Its what worked for me. Smiley smile

Some of these rings people are saying they get comments on that it's too small make me question society hard. And Jen, your uncle is stupid lol. Sorry. Anyway, all of the rings in this post are so beautiful!

My ring is a 0.44 ct pear diamond solitaire. It's a quality diamond, and I told FH I didn't want him to spend too much. Him getting quality without spending a fortune was super important to me.

I don't see anything wrong with someone upgrading if they want to, but it's not something I want! Personally, I could not be happier with my ring. I don't look at it and think "it should have been bigger." I have nothing against ladies with larger diamond rings. But this ring is perfect for me. It is also engraved with a special message from FH. He told me he picked the diamond shape because it reminds him of a shield: I just thought that was sweet.

ETA: Spelling is hard Smiley tongue Also, I know I've posted these pics several times. I just couldn't help myself!

I once knew a girl that received so much flack about her very small diamond that she "accidently" lost it. I thought it was so sad of her to do that because it was his grandmother's ring. Also, a man is offering you his whole life and world. Why should you, or anyone else, care about the package it comes in...I too saw the Facebook post and it made my blood boil...I don't even have a ring yet, but I sure would take a zip tie over nothing!

@Salisott I know! I was so upset when she told me that she "lost" it. And I knew she did it on purpose because she was way too happy about getting a "better ring" (her words!) needless to say, the marriage ended in divorce...

The rings are gorgeous! I have an average solitaire but with a plain, thin band. I've gotten comments basically suggesting I get a flashier wedding band to spruce it up :-/

@Sunni that is the beauty with solitaires you can put any band you want with them. Flashy not flashy it's up to you. My E-ring is a solitaire and my wedding band actually wraps around it it's simple, but I think its stunning Smiley smile

I don't understand people being jerkey to others about their wedding rings. Keep your pricky comments to yourself. That being said, I traded in FW's diamond 2x for better and better diamonds because I wasn't satisfied. The first time was because I took a picture and the diamond looked yellow! It shouldn't have by what it was rated. The replacement diamond they gave me (I couldn't pick it out because they were upgrading it for free) had an inclusion that I could see. FW loved it but I was annoyed that I could see the inclusion. We upgraded her diamond and now we are both happy with it.

Wow I love seeing everyone's rings! They are all gorgeous! Initially I wasn't going to comment or post, but I have had similar experiences with people thinking my ring is small. I also live in a fairly wealthy area (SoCal), and have had people sneer at my ring because it isn't 2 CTS! It's a 0.82 CT center stone and there are like 30 diamonds in the setting (halo and side diamonds on 3 sides), and it feels like the perfect size for me. We could have afforded a bigger diamond, but it wouldn't be as high quality as the one we ended up with.

Also, on the other side of the spectrum, for the area that our families grew up in, my ring is on the large side, and people there have asked me many times if it's real. I like responding with "It isn't a hologram" or, if I am feeling extra snarky and they were really rude about it, "It's more real than yours" (since it is ALWAYS people who aren't engaged who ask). My point is that there isn't a way to please everyone no matter what size ring (ETASmiley smile or type of center stone you have, and all that matters is what it means! And ring porn just because Smiley smile.

    I'm a size 5.5 for reference:

I love this thread. So many girls have e-rings similar to mine! I actually saw a few that look EXACTLY like mine, and a couple wedding bands like mine as well. I was convinced that I had the weirdest rings ever, so I'm glad I saw this thread Smiley smile

My ring clearly does not look like an engagement ring, but no one has said anything negative about it. At least, not to my face. Not that I'd care. I love my ring in all its non-conformity.

I've not had anybody comment on the size of my ring, usually just how sparkly and unique it is. The center stone is I think 1/4 carat, and I'm not sure what the carat weight of the other stones are. I personally love it and waited a long time to get it!

I actually have no idea what size my center stone is - I just looked at the person who made my ring's page, and from the options I'm assuming it is either a .7 or 1.1 carat white sapphire. I get the judgmental "its not a diamond" reaction all the time, but I wanted a non-mined colorless stone that was decently durable, and I got it! I cannot imagine how large something that is 2 carats would be on my hand. My finger is a size 6.75, it isn't even that tiny! Plus my setting is pretty unique with the oval half bezel; its perfect for my job since I bump my hand more often and I don't feel worried about the setting at all. So many beautiful rings in this thread! Smiley smile

I feel like this is something that you just can't win honestly. People are going to judge you if they think your ring is too small or too big. I've gotten comments before on my wedding set saying it's cute or a good starter set, and I've heard that I have gaudy and shallow taste when I've worn my late grandmother's ring, and that either the stone is fake or DH is whipped to spend so much.
