Small obx Ceremony

Hillary, on August 4, 2020 at 3:00 PM Posted in North Carolina Planning 0 6
VA bride here. Our wedding was supposed to be this November but we are postponing to next year. We still want to get married on 11/7 this year and are trying to find somewhere in the OBX that hosts a SMALL wedding on the beach that is not so stinking expensive. I’m talking like maybe 10 people. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve tried looking on this app but it shows places that are for big weddings.

Hi Hillary! Even if the venue mainly advertises large weddings, you can always reach out and ask if they have elopement packages as well! Especially under our current circumstances! 😉

Sea Ranch Resort has a good beach elopement service and Sanderling Resort also has several options for guest lists between 15-20 people. You can also look for officiants and wedding planners who specialize in planning elopements, like Rev. Barbara Mulford - My OBX Officiant and I Do OBX Weddings and Events! Smiley ring

Look into "the wed collective" on instagram! I am getting married in the OBX on 8/29/20 and several of our vendors have collaborated to provide these all inclusive intimate/micro wedding packages. As far as venues go, you can rent an event home through one of several rental companies in the OBX and have the ceremony on the beach in front of the home. We originally were getting married at Jennette's Pier but obviously Covid had other plans so we are renting Westside Inn (a private event home) in Manteo for our small reception and keeping our ceremony on the beach beside Jennette's!

    I hope this helps some!

I saw that Jennette’s pier rented their pier out. Do you have to pay to do a ceremony next to it? I also wanted to do pictures on the pier. Do you know if they allow that?

I was also supposed to get married at Jennette's Pier but it still isn't open and probably won't be for our October wedding. I'm honestly not sure if you could just rent the pier for a ceremony since their indoor event center is closed. You can walk on the pier for pictures, I think it's $2 or $3 a person to walk on the pier. If you do your ceremony on the beach, there is no charge. You just will want to check local county ordinances for rules about beach weddings. Further south, the beach is managed by the National Park Service and you have to get a permit to get married on NPS beaches.

We looked at the Pelicans Landing event home (pelicanslandingobx.com) - it's an event house that is on the small side and would be PERFECT for 10 people. There is a private beach access and a really nice grassy backyard and large porch off the back of the house, and I think it sleeps 10-12. The Outer Banks Wedding Association is also a really great resource for venues of all sizes, as well as vendors.
