Small votives—worth it?

Katherine, on March 14, 2022 at 11:28 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 3
Hey guys, just wanted your opinion on votives and if you have pictures from your reception to share that would be great too!
So my original plan was to sprinkle about 4-5 small gold Mercury glass votives (pictured below) around the centerpieces (mix of high arrangements and floating candle trios). Our tables are 72” round tables and the venue is a large ballroom with very high ceilings. I’d like to bring a little color to the tables hence the gold votives. But my question is—would they even show up? Are they worth it? The venue has clear small votives that are free so we could use those instead and save a little $. From looking at pictures on Google images the clear small ones maybe seem to show up more and provide more of that “warm glow”. What do you think?

Hi Katherine. I think gold mercury glass will give you more color and a warm, textured glow as you were hoping. Also, your tables are larger, so this can give you the opportunity to branch out your tablescape design from the middle. There are affordable sets on Amazon and Oriental Trading Co. I was in a similar mindset looking to add more color, with 60" rounds, 21' ceilings, and high and low centerpieces (sorry, no good pics without people). My venue provided both clear votives (white candle, flame) and silver mercury votives (yellow flame inside) and I liked the textured look better. I also added uplighting. If you choose mercury glass, you can also use battery-operated tealights for less flame sensitivity. Best wishes.

I would totally just use what the venue has! It will still give you a nice glow and I don't think anyone would notice the difference if you got the mercury ones. We had small votives scattered throughout and I just loved how it looked. I don't have a good picture, but you can kind of see in the front of this picture the votive.

I DIY the votive candle holder by using yogurt jars. It’s easy. Yogurt is only $1.49 each.
