Small/micro Wedding

Jasmine, on January 15, 2020 at 7:32 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 39

As some know, FH and I were forced to cancel our big wedding due to an unfortunate circumstance. As of right now we're looking into a venue that has an "elopement package" for up to 30 guests. The event will be 2 hours long and no reception. We would do a lunch/dinner at a nearby restaurant or something.

Would you still hire a videographer for that amount of time? Do you think it would be worth it?

I cannot speak for where you are but I am doing the same and I can tell you that the US does not necessarily do elopement packages. In my area I would say country clubs tend to be a bit more affordable or do the ceremony in a nice park or something then rent a rec center or venue that allows outside food and alcohol to save money. I would say at least the videographer for before and during the ceremony.

What do you mean the US doesn't necessarily do elopement packages? As far as what?

We have one and we are also doing a package. He's just taking video of the ceremony, and we have him for 2 hours.

That's what I was thinking as well. What site did you find him?

We’re having a videographer. It’s a package with the photography. The elopement is just he and I, so it was important for us to have video not only for us but also for everyone who wanted to be there.

He was a recommend by the officiant who owns the elopement package. I feel like you’ve got to put a lot of trust in these packages, it’s unconventional to not meet with these vendors 😓

Well the hotels i have seen in Tampa Bay just do wedding packages which is basically the price of a full wedding. They're are officiants that will do cheap wedding packages which would be the way to go. Look at simply eloped our pool the knot. Those two sites are good.

We did something similar. Small ceremony about 2 hours on site and a reception at a restaurant. I'm not sure why but there are a ton of "elopement" type places that offer packages in the midwest and the southern states. Not sure where you are but when I was looking there were a TON. I personally didn't bother with a videographer and invested more in a photographer. But I think it would go the same way. A lot of wedding vendors will compromise on prices and whatnot if you just tell them exactly what you're looking for if it's not on their set price list.

I say yes. It's still an important moment you would like to look back on no matter how big or small.

We had a microwedding and had a photographer but no videographer.
I think it comes down to whether you think you will watch the video, regardless of the size of your wedding. I knew we wouldn't, so I would never get one even if we had a huge wedding. If you think you will get use out of it, absolutely you should have a videographer!

That was kind of what we were thinking too. Even though we will still have some guests, it's not everyone we originally wanted to invite.

Oh ok. I'm not sure if the venue offers videography but I would definitely feel better if I picked them myself and actually got to meet them. Did the videographer not have a site or something you can at least see their work??

Oh. I see. I never mentioned a hotel though. That's not the venue we're checking out. I do see I worded my post a little weird because I wasn't asking for advice on where to find a venue/package like that. We already found a venue that offers the elopement package I'm referring to. Just wanted to see if it would still be worth hiring a videographer. My apologies for any confusion.

Oh lol. I misunderstood. Yay! Glad you found an elopement package. It just that resorts in other countries have awesome elopement packages but hotels in my area don't. In fact elopement packages mostly here involve going to the beach which is a last resort for me.

Thanks. There are a lot of elopement packages that we were interested in out of state. We live in Vegas so it wasn't our first choice to stay here until we finally found this venue for an elopement. They do offer photography (not included in package price).

It would include cake and champagne so they allow like a small little celebration after the ceremony. I was just wondering if it would be nice to capture that as well. It would be like a small "reception" before everyone goes to eat.

Understood. But thank you! I'm just so exhausted after planning a big wedding, I'm over it. I'm not trying to do it again. Not financially smart. As long as we still get married, im a happy camper.

Oh I totally get you. I think if it's something that's important to you it'd be something you should do!

I saw some videos from the site I hired the officiant from, they were way too drawn out for my taste. What I've requested in our contract are the raw files so I can create our own video and cc them as needed.
