Not going through this anymore, but I have been there. I quit almost 8 months ago by starting vaping. I'm now down to 0 nicotine (still vape because there's money to be had in competitions, and also I just love it). Honestly, best decision we ever made. Mods are inexpensive in the long run, you will breathe & just generally feel so much better, and you'll be saving yourself a TON of money. I would highly recommend looking into it.

I started smoking at 16 and quit at 22. I quit cold turkey. FH hated cigarettes so he would always throw them away on me. Also, I watched some dear family members go through hell and pass from smoking related illnesses. It was enough to scare me into quitting. It was very hard at first but it was the best decision I ever made! You can do it! Be strong! Your health and wallet will begin to improve immediately!

FH says once he's finished with nursing school (only a few more weeks) that he will quit smoking which is good because I often have to stay away from him due to difficult breathing around the cigarette smoke, and for a little while after because the smell clinging to his clothes and breath. I think he plans to use the vaping method to quit like Hammett. I'll even help buy the stuff for the vape pen if I need to. Anything to be able to cuddle up next to him anytime I want!

Not to sound like your mother, but two of my friends, smokers, died of lung cancer within months of each other this year.

I'd talk to your doctor to see if the patch would work for you, but definitely do it. You want all the time you can have being married, right!!

You got this girl! I've nevere smoked so I can't give any advice on what worked, but I work in the medical field and see smoking related illnesses/diseases every day and it's heartbreaking. There are some support systems out there to help you and I'm sure FH would also be a great support. Also it would benefit even more if you two wanted children in the future

You go through a long amount of time not smoking, you can just extend that time now. It won't be easy but you can do it. BTW, punctuation is your friend. And you can edit your post once you post it. Smiley laugh

Lol sorry about the punctuation I was sitting outside smoking and it was 33 degrees out so was trying to hurry. Thank you all for the support and the advise. I will definitely be quiting. My mother is 43 and has been smoking since she was 16. She sounds like a 80 year old man most of the time and I don't want my future kids to think that about me.

I second vaping! I smoked for 11 years half a pack-pack a day. Unfortunately my wakeup call was watching my grandfather pass from lung cancer and it was extremely hard to watch. I bought a vape cig and they recommended nicotine mg content based on the cigs i smoked. I eventually went down to 0mg and it took me about 2 months to quit completely. I am now 2 years smoke free and cannot stand the smell.

My fiancé smoked for years and switched to an e cig which he uses all the time. He says he plans to eventually stop doing that but it's a step.

I was a 15 year smoker who quit with vaping. I worked in the industry for 2 years, and recommend you make sure to spend the extra money on quality e-juice. organic stuff is just better for your body .. difference between a burger at McDonald's and grilling your own fresh to order.

I hope this helps..good luck to you.

Please just do whatever you have to do and quit. It is such a nasty and disgusting habit, and is terrible for your health. It is also selfish to smoke in your house when you live with a non-smoker. Second hand smoke has consequences too.

My FH smokes and I am a social smoker. I smoke a lot more because he smoked. He is planning on quitting at the end of this year. Not only for health but because we are spending $200 a month on cigarettes. FH says that he just eats more to quit...not sure if that's helpful. My aunt chewed on coffee stirring straws.

If you go with vaping (which again, I highly recommend) I would make one more suggestion. Invest in a box mod, don't waste your money on vape pens. They work for some people, but not for most. A mod will give you more flavor and a better hit, which will make it easier to quit smoking altogether once you get used to a vape. Go to your local vape shop for everything, including e-juice. Its a bit pricier, but honestly, it's 100% worth it. ETA: Secondhand vape stuff is acceptable too, I bought my mod from a friend and its as good as anything I could have gotten new.

FH and I both smoke heavily. I've been smoking for 17 years (which is sad since I'm only 34) and FH has been smoking for about 10 years. We both vape as well, but I found that I vape inside, since we don't smoke inside, but still go outside to smoke as well. I haven't found vaping much of a help in cutting back on nicotine intake, it just keeps me from going outside as often.

@MRose: Have you tried a higher nicotine content and throwing out your cigarettes? If they're not there, it's easier to rely on a vape. When you're ready, you can start dropping the nic gradually.

I have, I think it's more that I'm just not ready to quit to be honest. I'm a recovering addict (been clean for 15 years), and rarely drink, so nicotine is my one vice that I can't seem to let go of....yet.
