S'mores..

Pinky Winter Promise, on July 18, 2015 at 5:40 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

Today - I was working on little tags for our s'more kits (we are leaning to having a fire going during the reception). I found the file online and then the girl who wrote the blog directed us to picmonkey.com - where we could further personalize it. I am just googling like crazy to figure out WHEN I should actually make the s'mores kits and how. I do not want to make them to far in advance because I do not want anything going stale (marshmallows) or soft (graham crackers). Also would people be okay with opened chocolate? (Picture 1 and 2) or is it better to do mini hershey bars, like the girl did in the blog? (Picture 3). I can see Picture 3 being more expensive than Picture 1 or 2 though (and we want this to be as affordable as possible). Also how many bags to make? One per guest? One for every 2 or 3 guests? (We would all want to do one s'more, maybe 2 per bag).

If anyone has any experience or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

    If you would like to make your own kit (and tag).. here is the link to the blog (she has the file for the tag attached in her blog).

    I would do 1.5 per guest. For most adults smores are (too) sweet, so one is all they can stand to eat. Me included and I love sweets. But some ppl will burn there's or want more which is why I'd say 1.5. We hear stories on ww of having tons of candy left from candy stations or favors.

    @FFW - How about if some of those numbers include kids - should we still do 1.5 for them as well?

    Another question - hypothetically, if we had 100 guests (we probably will have more) X 1.5 : That would be 150 s'mores.. Should we do 150 packages (1 s'more each) or 75 packages (2 s'mores each)?

    There was a girl who posted on my FB wedding group that just attended a wedding with s'mores favors (that's what we are doing too) and she had helped the bride make the kits a week prior. She said at the wedding the graham crackers had already gone soft.

    I am now planning on starting them just 2-3 days before the wedding. Ours will also be in acrylic boxes wrapped with ribbon, and our tags look just like these-ordered from Etsy.

    @Monica - So many questions:

    - I am not sure if we want to do the acrylic boxes (mostly because of the space). We are guessing between 150-175 guests will come to our wedding (including kids). I am thinking cellophane bags take up less space than acrylic boxes do?

    - Are you make one set for each guest?

    - How many s'mores per box are you putting together?

    - Also are you doing unwrapped chocolate? (I feel like this would be easier to put together and easier for guests to make while at the wedding - but I am not sure if guests will enjoy having unwrapped chocolate bars).

    **We have other favors that we are giving to our guests. The s'mores are something sweet we will have in addition to cupcakes**

    ETA: Very cute tags!

    OMG this is such a great idea!! Thinking about it right now (for the first time) I would probably have 1 per guest, but have a bunch of extras. We are having quite a few kids at our wedding, so I would have a few bags of supplies on hand for that. Only having one cute favor per person though would help with costs and time spent.

    [I am totally using this idea btw for our favors Smiley smile ]

    I like pic 2 the best. I would make 150. Are you buying marshmallow roasting sticks or will guests find their own?

    Yay!!! Yes our venue coordinator is the one that highly suggested it to us - especially because we are having a February wedding.

    The website has the link for the following tags. Therefore all we have to do is buy the paper (cardstock, most likely -- but maybe vellum) and print!. I personalized it with our names and wedding date.

    We're just having the fixings sit out so people can grab what they want. Less effort on my part and less cost in packaging even tho those are cute!

    @Pinky Winter Promise....Thanks!

    I am doing one acrylic box at each place setting since this is our only favor. We have 50 guests.

    The chocolates will be unwrapped and I will use food service gloves when I assemble them. Just much easier.

    They will have enough items in them to make 2 s'mores. I think some will eat them, but some may just take them home for their kids-which is cool with me. Smiley smile

    @HLW - So number 2 has enough to make 2 s'mores each. I'm not sure if I should just make 150 bags with 1 s'more each or 150 bags with 2 s'mores each. Which option would be better? (We also will probably have enough cupcakes, so people could have 2 per person).

    I think that our venue has roasting sticks we can use. However, I would have to contact our venue coordinator to be sure. If he doesn't provide them, I might just go to their property one day and search for some natural wood sticks - lol. Unless I can find actual "marshmallow roasting" sticks at a very affordable price.

    @Sparkles - that is a good idea.. I guess I could ask my venue coordinator if there is a way we can set it up nicely (to reduce the cost of cellophane bags and possible graham crackers breaking as I put everything together, as well as my time putting them together). (He is very particular about how things are layed out (doesn't like a mess) - which is totally okay with me).

    I didn't realize at first there were two in each for pic 2. I would do 100 packs then. However I do like Sparkles idea about just setting them out. That would be your best bet to avoid soft crackers.

    I was gonna say what about setting up a "bar" near the fire and then have a few bags in case someone wants one to go.

    It's a fireplace on the outside deck... I guess we could set-up a table out there? But in order to have a full-bar, we may need someone to keep it stocked and appropriately placed. I just have to talk to my venue coordinator, to see what we can get to work.
