Snacks and the reception

Chelsi, on January 27, 2017 at 10:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 30

I am not sure why, but I woke up this morning in a panic about my dinner at the reception. Must have had a dream about it I don't remember. Yes, I am serving my guests a REAL dinner, but it'll be around 6pm, and the reception goes until midnight... I am worried that with all the alcohol and time between the end, people may need a snack. Any suggestion on what to have, or has anyone had snacks as well? Is this something I even need to worry about?

Lots of people do late night snacks. Ask your venue.

We'll have a cookie table, which is a Pittsburgh tradition.

We're bringing out some pizzas around 10 from the restaurant that's catering.

We're having various flavors of grilled cheese later in the evening.

People are fine without another snack so you don't have to worry about it, but I do feel like my friends always end up getting pizza late night Smiley smile

If you want to serve a late-night snack that's awesome! We wanted to do this but didn't have enough room in our budget. You could also have a candy or dessert bar that guests can continue to much on!

We are doing a popcorn "bar" type thing as our favor/late night snack

A bunch of popcorn to put in paper popcorn bags with bowls of M&Ms, Reese's pieces, squeeze bottles of movie theatre butter, bottles of sriracha, and a few salt shakers.

We both love popcorn, and FH family has a popcorn machine.

You totally do not have to do this. However it is super cute. FH and I are also thinking about doing the popcorn idea.

I think it really depends on what you're serving. A typical reception here would have four or five stations and dozens of hors d'oeuvres, then four or five courses. There generally isn't a lot of time between the dessert and the end time. I wouldn't worry if you have enough food along the way.

I really like the popcorn idea! I also feel like that's a good drunk food, especially with a bunch of toppings and everything Smiley smile

@celia where are you located? I am in Iowa, and I feel like the typical here is a buffet, so we are doing that, but a little more extravagant. We will be having 3 meats, 4 sides, and a dessert, as well as cake later.

Speaking of that, are buffets tacky, or should we do a plated?

I'm going to have a popcorn station. 3 different kinds of popcorn, we will place bags and people can serve themselves.

If my reception was going past 9:00, I would totally do grilled cheese or pizza. That's such a cool idea!!!!

We had mini grilled cheeses with a tomato basil shooter, cheeseburger sliders, and cookies with milk. Was a great hit!

My dinner started at about 7:00 and ended about 8:15. The reception lasted until midnight and we did not serve snacks as everyone had just eaten a big meal.

Our reception ends at 9 but we plan on continuing the party at a local bar for those who want to join us. I plan on having taco bell or white castle burgers delivered to the bar.

Legally we had to serve food at certain times to get a liquor license. We had appetizers, buffet with two meats and all the sides. Candy bar and cupcakes for dessert. Then we had "midnight lunch" brought in about 11ish. This was cheeseburgers from McDonald's. We got enough for 2 per person(counting in 80% guests would still be there)and they were gone.

I'm in Jersey. I can't even believe the amount of food that's served at weddings here.

It may be different where you are! I love the popcorn bar idea, or maybe even a food truck?
