Snoring husband

Sarah, on May 19, 2022 at 12:36 AM Posted in Married Life 1 14
Hi, so my husband and I have been married for 7 amazing months. We have ran into a problem lately. For about the past month or two, husband has been snoring. It used to be a every once in awhile thing, now it is a constant every night, all night long thing. It has gotten so bad, I have to sleep in the guest room and I can still hear him snoring. His snoring is so loud I can hear it over the TV in the living room. Him and I are going on vacation in a few weeks and I’m afraid of getting no sleep while at the hotel. I feel like his snoring is progressing as my pregnancy is progressing. Does anyone have any solutions or advice for me to try and help husband’s snoring?

Just a thought- could it be that you aren’t sleeping as deeply during your pregnancy as the baby is growing and had previously slept through his snoring? If looking for a quick solution, try some type of Breathe Right strips for him to wear at night. A friend had to use these on a girls trip, and they were a godsend! If you are looking for a long term option, have him talk to his doctor. He may ultimately need to go for a sleep study.

My non expert opinion is that I think his snoring has always been this bad, however you slept more deeply and didn’t notice it as much. You mentioned that you’re pregnant... maybe you’re sleeping lighter now?

His snoring might be effecting his sleep too. Does he feel rested in the morning? Usually snoring that bad won’t let him get any real rest. Maybe he could look into getting a Cpap machine. It would eliminate his snoring and also he would sleep better and get more restful sleeps and you would not hear the snoring!
    Good luck!!!

This happens to my fiancée as well. Sometimes it is seasonal allergies even if he’s fine during day. The Breathe Right Strips can help. Also I have ear plugs - you can get the cheap ones that block sound (like people use around machinery). Also for some reason it depends on his sleeping position - so he’s gotten used to me tapping him during the night to roll over. His back is the worst.

I second the nose strips. My fiance uses them and it helps a lot. He also got a wedge pillow to prop himself up, which helps alleviate snoring.

My mom puts ear plugs in her ears, doesn't ever hear my dad. She's been doing it for 30 years now.

Ha! This is funny because my husband to be snores a lot and he was snoring last night and I hit him and said you’re snoring he says OK. I hit him again and I said I’m gonna go sleep in the guestroom he says OK and then rolls over to cuddle me. Hilarious. But typically we use a air purifier and that has helped dramatically.

Husband has said more than anyone once lately that he is not getting a good night sleep. Husband keeps blaming the mattress for his lack of quality sleep and saying that it is due to stress as well. I have been getting onto him about making a doctors appointment for the snoring. I also know that I’m not sleeping as well through the night now as I once was.

That is good to know. I have been looking at different pillows to see if any would help him.

I know I’m thinking about getting ear plugs. I’m just afraid of not hearing my alarm when it is time to get up.

My husband when he is in a deep enough sleep to where he snores, he won’t feel me hit or kick him to get him to stop. He used to, now he doesn’t. I can definitely try an air purifier with him.

My partner also snores, and I use sleep phones, which are like... wireless earphones in a fuzzy headband. I generally listen to softly spoken audio books or ASMR or whatever to drown out the snoring, lol.

If he's snoring as much as you say though, it may also be worthwhile getting a sleep study done. It's possible he's got sleep apnoea and might actually be stopping breathing which is why he's not sleeping well. Looking at getting it sorted before you give birth would be ideal, because you're going to need all the sleep you can get!

I would see about getting him checked out for sleep apnea. He may need a cpap machine.

My husband won’t even make a doctors appointment to see a doctor about his snoring, I’m pretty sure he needs a cpap but he is being extra stubborn and does not want help from the doctor. Then he complains about us not sleeping in the same room.
