Snowy month in Colorado Wedding

Sarah, on January 22, 2021 at 1:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I was thinking of having our wedding in Fall this year, but with the pandemic, I was thinking that pushing it into 2022 might be a good idea to give everything a little more time to "normalize" (fingers crossed). We live in Colorado and March is one of the snowiest months of the year. Has anyone else struggled with deciding on whether family could travel? or do we plan what we want (specific date) and just see who can make it?

I guess I'm having a hard time balancing what others want and what we want. Thoughts?

    Hi Sarah!

For us, we thought about family traveling, but ultimately chose what we thought was best for us. We have family in Michigan and in Canada, so for our January wedding, we thought about what the weather would be like there for air travel since it would most likely be snowing.

We sat down and thought about it, and decided that we would stick with our original plan of a January wedding. We have bad allergies during the spring and didn't want to deal with that, hate the summer heat in Georgia, and fall is football season lol.

At the end of the day, it's ya'lls day. It's nice to consider your guests, but you can't make EVERY decision in your wedding surround what your guests would want. Send STDs and invites out at the correct time to give guests time to plan, and you should have no problem. Smiley heart

Unless you live in an area without accessible roads, people will be able to travel with no problem.

Pick the date that works for you, send save the dates 6-12 months in advance so they can make arrangements. Your families and friends will gladly work around what you have chosen.

I agree with others, except for a rare freak winter storm, travel is generally possible year round, so unless you live in a place that is completely cut-off by weather for predictable periods of time, I'd just go ahead. We've traveled to Chicago for weddings in early February -- yep, there was snow and freezing temps, but we went and had great times. Daughter's wedding was in SoCal in January. For six straight days, right up to the time the rehearsal began, we had record-breaking rain and flooding -- never would have predicted that -- we're generally in a drought 99.99% of the time. But 48 hours later, as the outdoor ceremony began (there was an excellent plan B, in case of bad weather), it was sunny, 78 degrees, and gorgeous (actually, a tiny bit "sweaty"... Smiley winking ). Also, the week of daughter's wedding, most of the 25+ out-of-state guests escaped a "polar vortex" in the Midwest to spend the better part of the week in first rainy, but then gorgeous So Cal. Weather is generally pretty unpredictable. Just do the best you can! Good luck! Smiley heart

Yes. We got married near Lake Tahoe and we knew we wanted a winter wedding but were so worried about snow. For us it was because there is an hour and a half travel time from the closest airport and if there’s a snowstorm, roads can be shut down.
We decided on early December because in general that’s when there aren’t major snowstorms. It was still a risk but it worked out and our day was beautiful.
If there’s a snowstorm on your wedding day, will people be able to make it? If people have to fly in, I wouldn’t worry too much. Flights often still occur when it snows, there might just be some delays. Would people be able to get to the venue easily from the airport? If they’re not used to snow, can they have a taxi or bus easily drive them?If people are driving, do roads stay open even in the worst storm? Are they all used to snow and comfortable driving?
