So.... all veils come with combs? 'cuz I'm bald...

Becka, on November 10, 2018 at 9:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

This may be a weird question, but... I'm looking for a veil.

The problem is: I have alopecia totalis. AKA: I ain't got no hair up there. I also don't do wigs due to them being extremely uncomfortable (itchy and hot), expensive, and annoying to maintain.

SO! Do all veils come with combs? Am I going to have to craft my own or custom order a veil without a comb? Depending on style, I know I'm probably going to be using clear fashion tape to keep it on my head.

Instead of tape, could you have one attached to head band? Kind of like this, but a veil and in the back, but worn like this I don’t know how to describe it so I added the picture.

Ok, what styles are comb-less then? Care to be a bit more helpful?

My best friend and I just Searched for veils for bald heads last night!! If you go on Pinterest there are different ideas of what you could do. There were headbands and like lace caps that I loved! You surely have options out there!

I would think any veil could be made without a comb, but I'd check with wherever you are going to order it from. I also think most veils attached to a comb could be pretty easily modified to work without one. I made daughter's veil. After gathering the tulle, I sewed it to a comb, but I could have just as easily sewn it to a small piece of ribbon or other fabric, or attached it to a headband. They are SO easy & inexpensive to make (especially if you just want a simple cut-edge). There are lots of You-tube videos and Pinterest patterns. I made at least 4 different versions until we got the shape, fullness, and length exactly the way daughter wanted it, and I didn't spend more than $20 on materials for all 4, and each one took me about 15 minutes, at the most to make.

You can check amazon, they have all styles. I found one that’s cathedral type. Is there a specific length you’re looking for?

Hi--I have alopecia areata and my pattern doesn't allow for combs/clips/etc (there's not enough hair to support it!) so I used a headband instead of a veil. It was a lovely wire floral one that tied with a ribbon so it stayed in place. I wonder if you might be able to use something like that but attach tulle to the headband so it drapes nicely from behind without needing one of those headband styles that cuts into your forehead.

There are a lot of options for files without combs, especially if you go a little vintage. I did a quick google search and found a couple of examples: https://www.pinterest.com/nashtypop/veils-for-bald-brides/?lp=true

My veil from Etsy had the option to be made with or without a comb! It comes in three color options and is cathedral length!

I have Alopecia Areata and had a similar problem although I ended up having some fuzz day of. I was not wearing a veil, but I truly wanted a tiara. I ended up settling on a curler and it stayed out all day. I don’t think attaching a veil to one would be an issue at all

My mom had her veil attached to a floppy sun hat! Not sure if that's your style or not but definitely an option. Other than that I'd definitely say headbands are a great choice!

I would look for a veil attached to a headband or a flower crown! These are pretty common.
