So How Much Should Your Wedding DJ Cost?

So I emailed a few DJ companies asking for estimates, because of course none of their websites listed a price, and instead of a quick, general estimate, I get an email that says, "So How Much Shoud Your Wedding DJ Cost?" All it talked about was how I should be looking for the best. Never once was a rough price estimate said, only money mentioned was saying how I should be willing to pay 3x the normal price of a DJ for the best. Yah thanks for the non-information. Seriously and am I suppose to want to giggle with joy and rush to call them back exclaiming how I want the best here is all my money? This isn't the first vendor that has sent me something like this and it's getting really frustrating. I know they sometimes need more information, but usually I can gauge how much they charge if they would just give me their starting price at least (usually I can't even afford the starting price). Sorry for venting, I just wish there was an easier way to do this.

That is a terrible response from a DJ. Obnoxious. I would stay clear of him.

Our DJ was $1750 and he was awesome. Someone said above that a DJ shouldn't be over $900 - that's not true at all for some areas. If I had paid $900 for a DJ, he probably would have been lousy.

I am in the Chicago area and they are pricey! I was quoted 1,400 for one DJ and another quoted me 2,000 and said he also includes photo booth and uplighting. Not sure what I am going to go with yet.

I recommend a site called costofwedding.com to get a general starting point of pricing for vendors. I like that they give two ranges, one for newbies and the other for more experienced vendors.

The question should be, how much are you willing to risk on save on the most important day of your life. Im pretty sure you could find a college kid who started DJing to do it for $100 but there is a high chance he will ruin your wedding day. When finding a DJ for you event you have to find one that has a good reputation and good recommendations. In the 50+ weddings i have done i have never charged less than $1000 (and that was mostly in the beginning of my wedding career since before that i was a club DJ for 5 years already). I know if one day i get married myself i would never pay less than $**** even though i know pretty much every single DJ in my state and could bargain. You get what you pay for and if the cheapest is what you are looking for your on your wedding day maybe wait a little longer and save up more money so your wedding doesn't get ruined in front of all your loved ones.
