So I think I have a UTI

Amanda, on February 16, 2011 at 9:03 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 22

I have never had one before... but from what I have read everything matches. I have to pee constantly it seems, however when I go pee there is like hardly nothing there and it hurts. My lower stomach feels bloated but dont really hurt unless I am coughing. I have been really sick since friday with an upper respiratory bug and I think I pulled an abdominal muscle coughing. Now seems that I have a bladder infection or something like that. Anyone know if the only way it will go away is antibiotics? Hate to take out from work to make an appointment at the doctor but if necessary to get rid of this I am all for it.

The best way to find out for sure is to schedule a quick trip to a Doctors office. They can run a simple test, it does take some time to process the test, but if it is a UTI they will give you antibiotics for a few days and you should be fine in no time.

I used to go on antibiotics for UTIs but now I just drink tons of water. You can drink up to 1 liter of water an hour. But if you do that be sure to keep drinking lots of water for at least a day after the symptoms go away otherwise it comes right back.

There are some paper strips you can buy and test for UTI. I have constant UTI's so I keep them handy.

    I got them at amazon.com:

    http://www.amazon.com/Urinary-Tract-Infection-Strips-3-Count/dp/B000FTYUIY

And you better get that checked ASAP, you don't need that turning into something more serious.

Definitely get on some antibiotics for it. If it doesn't get treated properly it can work its way up through your urinary tract to your bladder and then your kidneys. And trust me.. it is not fun to deal with once you get to that point..

Go get antibiotics before it gets out of hand. It can start bleeding… you think it hurts now! Also, drink lots of cranberry juice. i like the cran-raspberry personally… But seriously, go to the doctor ASAP.

Yeah antibiotics are the way to go..trust me. Water, cranberry juice, etc will help you feel better for now but it will just come back and keep coming back I promise. I used to get them all the time, they were actually going to put me on a low dose antibiotic to take everyday, but with some really aggressive ones it finally went away. I still have to be very careful all the time and now only get them bout once a year. but they do sell strips which can help ya know if thats what it is.

If it's a mild UTI lots of water will clear it up, if it has advanced then go for the antibiotics, it's way cheaper than a trip to the ER.

Lots of cranberry juice will definitely help. If the pain is minor, that may be all you need. However, if it is more than that, you should get antibiotics as well.

I vote antibiotics and liquids. I treated my own UTI once and it ended up backing into my bladder and kidneys. I will never try to treat them on my own again. Drink enough to pee into a cup. It literally takes a couple of minutes and they'll write you a prescription.

Don't try to diagnose yourself, go to the doctor! Regardless of whether or not the symptoms seem similar, only a doctor can correctly diagnose you, especially if you've never had one before.

If it spreads to your bladder you are going to need antibiotics. If you have a UTI I would still just go to the doctor. If it spreads to your kidneys you will run into trouble (I'm a nurse) get treated asap. Drink lots of water and cranberry juice. If you you get antibiotics remember to take the whole course as directed.

Yes go to the doc. when i got my first one this past year it was summer and i was drinking lots of fluids cus i worked out side, didn't have pain right away didn't know there was a problem till i saw blood when i pissed. man i was like WTF... so i went to a hospital they were vary slow that day and time only 2 ppl in the er. the pills they prescribed me put me back in the hospital ( i went to a diff one after that) and didn't even cover a kidney infection which i had. any who after i got all fixed. I was educated and stuff on it and learned symptoms....

so sound like u may have one but go to a minuet clinic and under 60$ (and u wont get stuck like me with 5000$ in hospital bills that u may not be able to afford like me)

and walmart has 4$ prescription many that treat uti's if that ends up being what you have. good luck and do not put off going to the doc.
