Hello everyone so my fiancé and I decided to get married in September 2024 and we wanted to have a Mardi Gras themed wedding we’re getting married in Virginia but we’re both very new to Virginia don’t know much about the area and on top of that we don’t know when would be a best time to tell everyone or do the invitations and stuff like that I was just wondering do any of you ladies have advice for us on how to proceed.

Hey! Congratulations to you both. I’m newly engaged as well. Our wedding is in 2023. Every decorator I’ve spoken ask like it’s years away. So nice to see someone else planning early like me. But so far it’s been a headache. Definitely thinking about getting a wedding coordinator. I’ve been told first thing first is decide a budget. Oh I love y’all Mardi Gras theme. I’m from LA!

Oh that is amazing. Congratulations to you too. I want to hire a planner or coordinator myself but I want to make sure it’s worth it and they get the vision we have. I have always loved Mardi Gras but never been able to go so I’m shooting blind when it comes to decorating and I’m using a lot of Pinterest lol.

Yess! They are very expensive. I’m trying to figure out the same. But every vendor or decorator I try to contact is giving me the run around like I’m too early. Yep. You can’t go wrong with purple, gold, and green.

At this point I think the only thing you could do is set a budget and maybe look at venues. Be prepared that a lot of vendors won't sign a contract that far out, but you could at least narrow it down and do some research to see what's in your area and what they cost. You could also draft a guest list but be prepared for it to change a lot as well. Definitely don't have to worry about invitations and such yet (before that you could do save-the-dates 10 to 12 months out).

I started planning as soon as I got engaged. You have plenty of time especially if you use wedding wire because it will keep you calm and at pace when to do things. I’m ahead of my schedules as the first thing I did was find a budget, venue, and hired photographer, videographer, and dj to set my date and keep it. And whatever time I had in between I organized what I needed to do and found enough time to relax and enjoy doing my invitations and save the dates etc… so believe me right now you can organize perfectly with the timing you have right now. Much love and many blessings to you and congratulations

Thank you so much, but question, did vendors not want to try any work with your schedule because you were early or do you think the prefer it?

Actually they were happy about it. Especially since the pandemic and most people changed their date to **** they were able to work with me and book me. So it worked out well.

Congrats!! I am from New Orleans so I totally love the idea of a Mardi Gras wedding!

I am also starting to plan a wedding for October 2024 so I am in the same boat! Just creating our budget and starting to explore vendors has been very helpful!
