Hey,

We are seeing a lot of post of make up fails and I feel so bad for these brides. Makeup trial is usually where you discuss with your MUA on what you want your look to be for the big day. Some MUA have fees for the trial, which sucks if these brides are having fails and they paid for them! (so sorry ladies )

I am writing this post because I would like to know how can we prepare for the trial, so we can end makeup trials fails.

What are some tips we can do to prepare for the make up trial?

I spoke to my married friends and co workers and these are their responses, thought I'd share:

1. Bring pictures -Having pictures can give the MUA ideas of the style you are looking for, whether it is a natural look (no make up make up look or glam)

2. Wear white or ivory - wearing the colors similar to your dress can give you an idea for the big day. Wearing dark colors can alter your pictures, I also was suggested to wear an off shoulders white shirt if your dress is strapless. (idk)

3. Pictures- you would want to take photos with and with out the flash, to make sure your face doesn't have those white spots under your eye (flash back). Photographers might use flash etc. also use good lighting.

4. Hair should be similar - (this I do not agree but OK) One past bride suggested if you are wearing your hair up for the wedding, wear your hear up for the trial and if you decide on down etc.

5. Use the mirror and speak up if necessary-Its OK to pause the MUA and communicate if the application is going good or not.

please share some tips. I know these tips can be controversy, just wanted to share... please do not take any offense.

thanks!

Yes definitely speak up if you arent liking something. I am very picky with my make up, which is why i am doing it myself. If i were to pay for a trial i would insist on staying till its right. Those are really great tips to follow, esoecially the light colored shirt

@Tanya: You're welcome! Hope it works out for you!

Before I chose my MUA, there were 2 that I considered. I "stalked" them both online - their online galleries, Facebook, etc. to get a good feel of their makeup style and quality of their work. The person I ended up choosing had a very consistent look across time and different brides but she was good at making each bride look their absolute best. She was more expensive but worth it. I also liked that she was around the same age as me and had experience working with brides of all ages.

Definitely don't be afraid to speak up. Even though my HMUA is amazing, she is not a mind reader. When she initially did my hair trial, she made it messier than I wanted so I told her that.
