So that's why one is supposed to review registries periodically...

MrsC2B, on October 4, 2017 at 7:29 AM Posted in Registry 0 16

A cousin mentioned they were having trouble accessing our registry so I looked to sort what was the matter (it was nothing major and not the point of this post).

What I found, to my shock, was that two items that had been in the $30-40 range when I put them on the registry, were now $150-200!!!

I removed them immediately because I don't want our guests to mistakenly overpay for something. But I am now going to be obsessing over this and probably checking prices on a regular basis.

This happened on my Amazon registry, btw. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't have an Amazonr registry but this is good to know..Since it's Amazon, is it possible that Seller A no longer sells it for $40, or has it in stock...so it defaults goes to the next seller, so seller B for $150? That's really weird and a huge price jump!

Amazon algorithms use "dynamic pricing" or "surge pricing." So I would imagine those items became more popular, so the price went up.

A few items on our Amazon registry fluctuate in price. Not by THAT much, but by $10-$20 on any given day.

@Duckie, that link was informative, thanks. @FME, that's a good point about it being a different seller- I will have to check.

Yep, we saw the same thing happen with ours, too. It sucks worse when the price goes DOWN, after it's been purchased!

Yes, Amazon frequently does this unfortunately. One of the main reasons we aren't using Amazon because I don't want to be stressing! I had a comforter in my cart a few months back, and over the course of 24 hours I watched the price increase more than $100, and then come back down about $80. It's ridiculous.

Wow that's really not cool! I might have to head to BBB and register there too, just in case.

    Thanks for the heads up!

That happened to me on one of my amazon wish list (personal things I plan to buy when pay day comes) I had measuring cups in my list for $7 and when I went back to buy these damn things were $150 for measuring cups! There had to be an error but I will be checking ours regularly to make sure because I don't want my friends/family thinking I lost my marbles.

$150 for measuring cups- holy shankies! Honestly, I love Amazon, but had I known about this, i would have chosen BBB or Macy's (our other registry is Target). Oh, well.

Make sure you routinely check anyway for things that have been discontinued. We've had to change several items on Target because they keep getting discontinued =/

I'm registered at Macy's, Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma and checked on them recently. It is a good thing I did because the china I registered for at Macy's was no longer available so I had to find another pattern I liked and update that. My Pottery Barn registry had a few items that were no longer available so I had to update those. So far my Williams Sonoma registry is still good.

Did you happen to add it during a prime discount day or something? I know some things are only on sale for so long.

Amazon stuck gift cards on mine too and I had to remove it. Target had me chose "gift card or not" option at the time of registry creation so I unchecked it then and there.

@FMN14, nope, both these items had been on my personal wish list for a few months before I moved them to the wedding registry. And the prices were nice and reasonable. As one PP suggested, the price hike could be due to seller difference, but I need to check that.

I did notice two items had been discontinued but I was able to find replacements at a similar price.
