So torn: Table runners or no table runners?

MCB1218, on February 10, 2016 at 1:08 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

I'm doing white linens for the 6ft rectangular tables, and I'm just so torn as to whether or not I want table runners. I keep seeing burlap ones, but I think that's probably a little overdone at this point and doesn't really match the vibe of our wedding. Any thoughts? Are table runners necessary?

I'm doing table runners but my tables are 12 ft long so I'm having to hand sew two runners together in kind of a zigzag pattern because of the lace pattern. It's a pain but to me it's totally worth it, mine were about $2 or $4 a piece so not a big expense and I really like the look of it. I agree with burlap being kind of overdone.

Our banquet manager advised against them, for what reason?, I don't know. Overlays were okay, though. We had round tables.

I don't think anyone will notice either way. Do you have anything else decorative on the tables like centerpieces? That would probably be enough.

I'm doing plain white linens as well with flowers and candles.

I think it depends on your other table decor. If you're planning on simple centerpieces, a table runner might help complete the look. I think they look best with simple decor. I was considering runners too, because we'll be doing bud vases and votives... I figured it might help make the table look less empty.

However, there were no table runners at the last three weddings that I went to. And everything looked great. So, they're definitely not necessary. Just an option if you like how they look.

I went with runners because I think they added a nice touch and pulled in our theme. I looked at renting and the quotes were crazy, so I ended up buying on Etsy and justified the cost because I can re-sell them. If I ever get around to it...

I'm all about table runners. I think they add some nice visual contrast and give a more finished look, especially for white linens that tend to look a bit boring to me. We had navy blue table clothes and then our table runners were similar to Elyse's but were dark orange striped, not navy.

If you have the extra room in your budget and you want a little extra pop go for it. But to me, it isn't necessary. You can find some nice ones online if burlap isn't your thing.

I thought my table runners added a lot. I think it depends on how much stuff you will have on your table. My centerpieces were pretty simple, so I added ivory lace table runners. They were pretty cheap. I think I got 35 of them for like $70.

I'm going to Downtown LA this weekend to purchase fabric for runners. Our colors are yellow and gray and we opted to use the plain white linens from the caterer. So we're making our own runners so they match the exact colors we want vs what they had available. But my mom is a damn good seamstress.
