Social Security Name Change

It really depends on your local office. I sent mine in the beginning of November and I'm still waiting but my sister in law sent hers in at the end of November and she's already gotten hers back (different state). I would HIGHLY suggest mailing it certified mail so you can track it though. I am slightly worried that mine just got lost in the mail and never got to them 😬. Just a tip!

I had to actually GO to the social security office and give them a certified copy of my marriage license and fill out only one form. It was one annoying trip to the SSA and then the DMV to print me a new id. But I got a new Id the same day I changed my name.

I live in TN, and the process took maybe a week. I mailed everything in on Monday, received it all back Friday, and made an appointment at the DMV on a Wednesday! Super simple for me!

As the PP said depends on the state. In mine maybe over a month because you have to mail in your docs then await for them to be returned on the managers only come in three days a week to scan the docs and then wait for it to be in the system then the cards ship from Baltimore.

I live in CA and it took about 5-6 weeks to receive my new SS card.

Took me 7 weeks to get my social security card and three hours at the DMV

I received my new card in about 5 days. I had the entire name change process (SS card, ID, bank, etc.) completed in about 2 weeks.

I just dropped mine off at the SS office yesterday along with all the required documentation and they told me in VA AND since I dropped it off in person, it should take about 1-2 weeks. I am changing my passport as soon as I get it back from SS as I will need it for work in March. I cannot get my Drivers License changed until March though due to back-ups in appointment times with DMV. I am working on legal documentation and ID's first then I'll move on to bank accounts, etc.
