‘Socially Distanced” dance floor?

Hello fellow brides who are probably as stressed as I am about all this. Our wedding is August 22, 2020 in NY (not in the city) and we are going to have it no matter what. Our originally date was May 30, and Aug 22 is the farthest we could push it out due to my fiancé’s work ramping up in the fall....

Hello fellow brides who are probably as stressed as I am about all this. Our wedding is August 22, 2020 in NY (not in the city) and we are going to have it no matter what. Our originally date was May 30, and Aug 22 is the farthest we could push it out due to my fiancé’s work ramping up in the fall. Worst case would be renting a tent for our backyard and having as many people as allowed. Based on how things are trending in New York I am feeling really hopeful. My question is this - what are your creative ideas for a fun atmosphere while maintaining social distancing? Our venue is indoors but has a gorgeous outdoor patio - I was thinking about moving the dance area outside so it would be safer (if possible). Just trying to come up with some fun ideas! I’m FINALLY starting to feel hopeful about our wedding and have accepted that it won’t be exactly how we planned.

I definitely hear what you’re saying - the restrictions are not ideal. We just can’t postpone for several personal reasons. Each phase is 2 weeks long and they can make them longer or shorter based on how things go. The county we’re getting married in is very rural and things have been really quiet there virus-wise. I’m hoping that worst case we will have to have a smaller gathering (50 people). Right now we only have 88 guests so it wouldn’t be a massive day. I’m just trying to think of backup plans to make a fun atmosphere. All I can really do these days is come up with backup plans since the future is so unclear. Hope your big day is able to go as planned in MD!

That makes sense, I know it's hard deciding what to do. True, although each phase would ideally be 2-4 weeks you just never know. Maryland had put out a draft of their phases and the Governor put Phase I lasting until September. So I guess that's why at least down here I just don't see it moving as quickly as people are hoping it will. My county in Maryland still isn't even Phase I since the governor allowed each county to make their own decisions. Only 2 counties in the state are fully at his Phase I reopening, the rest are either closed still or modified to a pre-reopening phase I.

I see..it's also different for me since we're inviting around 200 so it's significantly larger than yours. I do hope you get the day you want. I agree I've been trying to get a Plan B but my venue won't even let me do that. I'm hoping by June they realize it is not happening.

Best of luck to you, regardless of the restrictions you may face I'm sure it will be the day you imagined just for the mere fact you get to marry your fiance!! At the end of the day I assume that's really all that matters for any of us. Smiley smile

Yes I am very positive. The restrictions will continue to be lifted. Ohio is honestly moving faster than I expected, so if we continue down this path then all will be well. Today marks 3 months for us and a lot can happen in 3 months.

I would keep the dancing outdoors, then indoors I would do like a photo booth or backdrop, games, corn hole etc to spread people out sucks but this will be the norm I guess. And yes I'm from NYC and i'm getting hopeful as well.

HI there, was wondering if you had your wedding and if you did indeed have your dance floor outside and how it went? Asking as my daughter is getting married in September and we are considering doing the same. And congrats on your wedding! Smiley smile

Hi Tracy! We weren't able to do it outside (probably for the best because it got pretty hot out there) but inside people didn't mind wearing masks and keeping a little distant on the dance floor. We had 43 people total and it was a blast Smiley smile Hope your daughter has the best day. We had so much fun that the entire weekend we nearly forgot a pandemic was going on.

Thanks for the information. I will keep thinking about it and watch our weather forecast. And so glad you had a blast and were able to forget about the pandemic during your wedding. That is the best and the way your wedding should be! Smiley smile
