soda

Of for all the DIY brides... are you getting 2 liters of soda or cans for your guest. I don't know which one would be cheaper.

Neither one would necessarily be cheaper than the other, especially if you can find some of it on sale. With a 2L bottle, you'll have guests pouring their own drinks, which can take a little bit of time. At the wedding I have been to that have done this there has always been a small line at the drink table (like 5 people, nothing extreme, just something to keep in mind). You save on clutter throughout the night because guests will likely use the same cup and refill it. You'll need to have ice, and ice scoop, and glasses for them. With cans, its a lot faster to just grab it and go. Throughout the night though you'll start to see empty cans accumulating on the tables (most guests will probably forget to throw them away) and you'll also need to keep them in some sort of ice barrel to keep them cold and when guests go to get them they will be wet from this. I think if I had to choose I would choose 2L's because of the clutter issue.

It really depends on if you can catch the soda on sale (you have time to stock up based on your wedding day). To give you an idea though, a 2L bottle of soda comes out to 67.63 fluid ounces, which is equal to 5.635 cans of soda. If you can get a 2L for $0.99 (which I believe you can usually find) then you would need to find a 12 pack of soda for around $2.10 (which is next to impossible, to ever find). So I would say that if you can find 2L bottles for the 99 cents and stock up on them until your wedding you should be fine and that should be the way to go.

I woudln't want lots of empty cans sitting on the tables in pictures. Right now there are lots of sales going on, just as there always is before memorial day... If you do decide on cans, Walgreens is going to have a good add for them coming up after mothers day. Also, Kmart has some 2L's that are 10/10 and will probably be that way for a few more weeks. Last thing to keep in mind: if you do buy right now, only buy the regular versions and check the date codes to make sure they're going to be good by your wedding. Diets don't last as long as reguar's and probably will expire before you wedding... you'll have to wait until about 2-3 months before your wedding to get those.

I always found people do not drink the whole can, and people open one set it down and forget about it, so they grab another. We always shoot out full cans. So now I buy 2 liters, easier clean up, and less waste. Just make sure you have plenty of ice.

We actually bought 12 packs of soda for $2 at a shoprite can can sale. This was decided after the caterer wanted to charge us $500 for punch. I feel like a 2 liter bottle may go flat faster and at least with cans, guests can take any left over soda.

Well we are hiring a bartender so really the only line would be at the actual meal time but hopefully the bar will open first so people can get dranks before the food. I think 2 liters might be easier and with 2 liters we can get the off brands if need be and no one will know. But will need the real coke for jack and coke lol

I agree that 2L is the way to go. While I prefer drinking canned or individually bottled soda, after hosting many events, we realized the amount of serious waste and trash involved, so we always use 2L bottles of soda. Most of our guests will only be using sodas as a mixer for a cocktail. We are setting up sodas for the "dry" drinks in a separate area, than those used for the cocktails. This will hopefully keep the lines short.

I m going with 2 liters but you cannot buy them to early, or they will go flat. My BIL works for Pepsi so I aasked him how long they are good for he said do not buy them more than a month in advance, especially your darker sodas, they go flat the fastest

We went a different route, and are doing water, iced tea and lemonaide in addition to signature cocktails and beer and wine. LOTS cheaper, can be made in bulk easily, and if you get low, just mix up some more!

I'd definitely go with the cans. All those 2 Liter bottles take up alot of storage space right behind the bartender. He'd have to be opening and closing them all night. They have a much better chance of going flat.

If you do cans, you can keep them on ice so they are already cold. The line moves much faster as well. Your guests won't be standing there waiting forever to get a drink.

As far as the cans stacking up- you should have staff that comes by and clears plates and stuff anyway. Why wouldn't they be clearing empty cans as well?

As far as which is cheaper- it's too close a price difference to even matter. You can shop the sales (just don't refrigerate them before you show up at the event) and get the best prices.

I am doing cans. I think it is easier and the 2 liter bottles (IMO) go flat much faster. We are renting some galvanized tubs to put the cans, bottled waters, and beer in.

I think that I'm doing both! Cans for adults and 2 liters for cocktail mixing and the kids.
