Sola fading

Danika, on August 9, 2019 at 4:35 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 9
Hi there! I just got in my shipment of sola wood flowers and I love them!! I want to start dying them but I am wondering if the color fades easily? Our wedding isn’t until June of 2020, but I’m trying to get ahead of the game since I return back to work in September and I know it’s going to get crazy. Would it be too soon to dye them now?

If you store them properly it shouldn't be an issue. We got ours done from etsy and they came in January for our May wedding. They looked the same on the wedding day.
Though they acquired a funky smell somewhere along the way. My mom kept them in her basement where the dogs sleep though so....

Keep them in a tote out of the sun in the back of a closet so they dont get sun bleached

    Hey there Danika!

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community.

I don’t have direct experience dying sola flowers, however, I imagine keeping them stored in a dark place away from sunlight should help keep the color.

If you plan on doing this, just make sure you take them out and check them out a couple of weeks before June 2020 to make sure they are ok! You don’t want to check on them the week of and find something has gone wrong!

What colors are you dying them?

I don't think they fade unless you leave them out in the sun, maybe? I made mine several months ago and they're just as bright as ever.

Thank you for your response! I am dying them a lavender color as well as soft grey and white, it ha sheen hard to find flowers in our colors so we decided to save on costs by doing it ourself! We did a test run the other night and are starting to get a hang of how to dye them Smiley smile

I really like the colors you've chosen! Lavender is such a lovely wedding color, especially for a summer wedding!

A test run is always a great idea Smiley laugh
