sola flowers anyone?

future.mrs.jarosz, on January 22, 2016 at 2:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hello!

has anyone ever used these for bouquets before? i hate flowers and refuse to spend the ridiculous prices for real flowers. i found a few different bouquets that look nice with sola flowers, but they're all on etsy and i've never seen that type of fake flowers in person before. just wondering if anyone has ever used them or atleast seen them to know what they look like in person?

Thanks!!

I just ordered Sola flowers for my bouquets and centerpieces but haven't done anything with them yet. I did find some posts on here showing the dying process and then the final product. Here are the links. Smiley smile

I really hope my personal experience with Etsy sola flowers can be helpful to you. I chose to go with sola flowers for my bouquet because of the price and I liked the look. I'm having an ivory/silver/navy themed wedding. My bouquet arrived about two weeks ago, and I'll tell you with complete honesty what my impressions of it were.

First of all, it was beautiful. It did look exactly like the picture. The smell was the first thing that struck me. I've never felt or smelled sola material before, but it smelled really pungent. Almost fishy. I was thinking I could spray some Febreeze on it. The texture reminded me of fragile styrofoam, except pretty. They are very obviously not real flower. I was fine with this, because it's something I expected and accepted. If you're looking for something that looks more real, I'd go with a silk bouquet.

The biggest disappointment for me was the size. The picture seemed to make the flowers look bigger. I messaged the artist on Etsy letting her know that I felt it was way smaller and the pictures made it look huge because of how zoomed in they were. She said that she had to zoom in to show detail. I didn't get upset, because after all, I knew the inches I ordered so it wasn't her fault and I simply ordered a bad size due to the fact that I have no experience with bouquet sizing or know anything about flowers in general. I ordered an 8 inch, which in my mind was fine but it's actually a bridesmaid size. The disappointment was just slightly more when I asked her if I could order a bigger size and she said that generally sola flower bouquets tend to look better smaller, and typically start looking like a mushroom when they're 10" or 11" in size. So basically she told me to go with a silk bouquet if I wanted a bigger size, which I did. I'm now going to use my sola bouquet for my bridal table. I'm grateful to have learned my lesson to help others. Obviously do your research on the size, keep in mind what you want and don't want.

For me the biggest con was the size matter, the fact that bigger bouquets on sola don't look so great. Which is true. Otherwise, the smell and the texture wasn't a deterrent at all. At least for me, it was so beautiful to look at, that it made everything else completely worth it so I still want to have them for display somewhere in my weddding. Smiley smile

Sorry, I don't know why it posted twice and I'm not sure how to take it off.

@Caitlyn here it is: https://www.etsy.com/shop/RosyLilyFlorals. The shop owner is great. She is easy to talk to and truly cares about the look you are going for. She sends you picture updates throughout the entire process and will change whatever you don't like - no questions asked. Just a little heads up.. the size of my bouquet I thought was perfect (medium). I had ordered the mini toss size for the bridesmaids bouquets but if I had to do it all over I would probably order the next size up. They were still beautiful - just a tad small. I mean they are considered the "mini toss" so that's on me.

As a side note.. I didn't notice any weird smell like @nimzz did with hers.
