Sola Flowers

Emma, on February 10, 2019 at 11:03 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 4 23
Hey everyone! I still have a lot of time to plan, but I've been looking around lately and those wooden flowers caught my eye (Sola flowers I think they're called?) I want to use those when I get married because when my FH and I went on our first date, I gave him a wooden flower with my perfume sprayed on it, then gave him another one on our 5 year anniversary. I think it would be a cute tie in to our past, even if not too many people know the reason behind it. I also hear they're cheaper then real flowers, but not cheaper than silk flowers? Has anyone used these in their wedding, like for their bouquet or centerpieces? How much did it cost you? Did you make them yourself or did you buy the bouquet premade? Are they difficult to work with? Also, pictures if you have any! 😁

Are you going to be painting/dying them? Or are you keeping them natural?

When I was ordering them I had the option to order them already dyed but I needed them white so I just ordered them as is. After the wedding I am planning to try dying them to use as decor in the house.

This is a terrible pic but its all i have on my new phone,so I apologize for looking like a mess haha! I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. So far my favorite decoration. They are really easy to work with. I bought i wanna say 540 for 150ish bucks. I follow them on instagram and they randomly do flash sales and i got my entire order 50%off. they do that every few weeks but only for like day. so you gotta watch closely. I ordered ones already painted and natural ones and did a mixture of both. i dont hve alot of extra time so painting them didnt sound very enjoyable to me but ive heard its pretty easy! Hobby Lobby has sells a select few types and they are often 50% off as well but you still only get like 5 flowers for 4 bucks. I shopped around for quite a bit before ordering and the cheapest i could find was directly from there website. The wire stems fir the flowers i got cheaper at hobby lobby. Hope this helps!

I should also add we made my bouqet, 5 bridesmaids buoqets, floeer girl bouqet, 8 corsages, 14 boutineers and still had flowers left to decorte with. obviously this varies depending on side you are hoping for. My biggest reccomendation though is ordering a variety sizes of flowers, its eaiser to piece together in my opinion

I'm doing sola wood flower bouquets as well. Apparently I haven't taken any pics since I've started assembling but I have been hand dyeing with the acrylic paint/water. The light colors are really easy but I've had some difficulty with deeper reds. The more times you dip the flowers, the darker the color but the flowers also get more fragile and break easily.

I would recommend buying extra than what you need so that you can practice with the trickier colors and you may change your mind on colors once you try them - I did this with some of the pinks in the upper right hand corner that I didn't like.

I bought mine from solawoodflowers.com and luvsolaflowers.com. You can always find a sale on both sites. SolaWoodFlowers seemed the cheapest but their shipping takes much longer and some of the flowers had to be reshaped. LuveSolaFlowers had less variety. If I buy more, I'm going to try ohyourelovely.com because they have some unique ones I haven't seen anywhere else and awesome instructions.

Good luck! Sola wood flowers have potential to be cheaper than other faux flowers if you do it correctly. Even if that's not the case, they will be an awesome keepsake!

I had my bouquets made on Esty with Sola flowers by StellaDesignsShop, and I could not be happier! They ended up being much cheaper than the florists were quoting me and I was able to pick out the exact flowers I wanted that wouldn't normally be in season for my wedding and have the burgundy color match my bridesmaid dresses perfectly. I loved working with Natasha too, she was very responsive to my questions and sent multiple photos before shipping the bouquets to make sure I was happy with them. ( I was testing a centerpiece/ head-table idea with the bouquets in vases)

I bought mine on solawoodflowers.com. I’ve had a 2 year engagement so I bought mine during sales and just stocked up over time. I can’t really remember how much I’ve spent..maybe $130-150 dyed them myself, made my bouquet, made my daughter a cute arrangement for her room, decorated my card box with them and have a bunch I’m using for centerpieces. They are pretty easy to work with. I dyed them using water and acrylic paint, it wasn’t so hard once I got into the flow of it.

I am officially obsessed with these wood flowers and currently tracking sales. I have a long enough engagement that I can mess around and see if I can create the florals I want without my 4K florists quoted price for real florals #win

What sizes are these? I was looking at that Etsy shop too but I couldn't tell how big I really needed them.

My bouquet is 10" (sold as large size) and the bridesmaids are 6.5" (sold as junior). Heres a photo from the actual day to get a better idea of the bouquets together

Thank you! We used a few different types of euclaptus & ferns. I just grabbed some greenery from hobby lobby! We actually end up switching them up a bit. Here are some pics from our wedding a few weeks ago showing the bouqets!

Has anyone used Sola flowers that had to transport them a good distance away? I’ve been considering these, but we’re having a destination wedding and I’d need to pack these in a carry on bag. Think they’d survive the trip of too fragile?
