Solo Violinist

We’re having a violinist do the ceremony music. My MOH thinks we should have a blue tooth speaker because it’s in the middle of the vineyard and may not be loud enough. With that being said there’s also no electric out there. So that’s my first question - Bluetooth speaker or not?

My other question is does anyone have any suggestions on songs? So far I have “Ave Maria” and “Canon in D”. I keep checking YouTube for ideas as well. He needs a list of what I want played as guests arrive and then what music I want for my walk down the aisle.

    Music teacher here...😊

A speaker will only work if there is some kind of input from the violin (e.g., microphone). No electricity presents a problem because most mics need power (which is why they amplify and are run through a soundboard). I have never seen a battery-powered mic run from an instrument to a Bluetooth speaker...I guess it could be possible but it’s not common. Just trying to give you an idea of what you would need to accomplish that. It’s likely unnecessary though… How many guests? I’m sure the violinist is used to playing outside if they do weddings, so leave volume and filling up the space to them.

If you don’t want to spend hours and hours creating a playlist for them in terms of prelude/seating music, you should be able to describe the type of mood/ambiance you want (e.g., romantic, fun, formal, casual) or at least identify genre or two that you want them to pull from (country, pop, classical) and they should be able to do that. I am a pianist and played for several weddings and that’s what I usually advise. Give me an idea of the feeling you want to create and I will make it happen. Selecting music… (even 20 minutes or so worth) can be an exhausting process. Let the musician do that! Also, the violinist should have some kind of repertoire list to choose from…

We have a solo violinist and are walking down the aisle to Cannon in D. My parents are walking down the aisle to Can You Feel The Love Tonight. And then we are leaving to Marry You by Bruno Mars.

I told them to play any similar music while guests are being seated. And upbeat, more current songs during cocktail hour.

We had a violinist for the ceremony too and while guests were being seated just asked for light classical music. We requested Canon for processional & she learned “He’s a Pirate” for our recessional. 👍

How many guests? I don’t think you’ll need a speaker, which could cause additional sound issues. Even if light sound, guests will hear the music enough.

Oh! Ask what the violinist needs. Before the rain forced us to our back-up spot on a patio (even better) the violinist requested two chairs & an umbrella to protect her violin. Once on the patio, she only needed the 1 chair. Musicians may need items to protect their expensive equipment and a chair to rest in between songs (or to play).
