Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

Michelle, on February 8, 2021 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

What is everyone doing for this???

Something old: my grandmother is lending me a pearl pin to put in my bouquet

Something new: Embroidered lingerie with my new last name

Something borrowed: I am getting pictures of both our parents and grandparents wedding days to display on our guest book table

Something blue: I am adding blue hydrangeas to our bouquets underneath the other flowers

Haven't really considered it, probably nothing honestly - not doing bouquet/garter toss either. going to look to do something different vs traditional.

We are not doing the toss either. we really dont have any single people coming to our wedding. I guess that's how it is in your 30s hahaha

My parents asked for me to keep some of the traditional things and this is one of them that requested for "good luck"

I love your ideas! Here's what I'm doing:

Something Old: hair comb from my first high school dance with my FH

    Something New: undecided

Something Borrowed: handkerchief from my grandmother

    Something Blue: blue topaz jewelry

I have no idea what I'm going to do for old or borrowed. I also don't know how to go about such! My something blue is covered; not only are my fiance's and my eyes both blue, but so are my bridesmaid dresses. I read that counts! Part of me wonders if I should ask for stuff, or just wait until someone offers. The problem is, I'm not great with subtlety! xD

    Something new: dress, shoes, veil

Something borrowed: my stepmother's pearl earrings

Something blue: underwear and the Ravenclaw diadem comb in my hair

I am undecided on this. Part of me says "vow renewal, not wedding, you shouldn't do wedding stuff."

But also, I have two really meaningful things that I want to carry that fit these descriptions, and my wedding "O/N/B/B" items weren't special at all, they were just thrown together last minute to do them.

If I do them, it would be these:
Old: handkerchief made from my wedding dress
Blue: an Ursa Major pin (painted like the night sky, so it's blue). My dad was always symbolized by a bear, and he always called me "baby bear." He died last year after a long battle with cancer, and I want to keep him with me in some way.

I figure it will probably be more appropriate for me to just have these two items with me for sentimentality reasons and not actually do the full O/N/B/B thing, so that's likely what I'll do.

I love that Jessica mentioned she's doing the sixpence - that's actually my favorite part of the tradition and it's often forgotten!

I haven't thought too much about it yet, but I know the blue!

Back in Feb 2020 my boyfriend (now fiance), John, and I were helping out and guests at the wedding of a friend from church. Their colors were... well, everything. Literally. It was so them as so fun! Anyway... my napkin happened to be blue. Our pastor was sitting at the next table over and we were talking to him a lot. I got up for whatever reason and when I came back there was writing on my napkin. It said:

Will you go out with me? (Check one)

    __ Yes

    __ No

    -Johnny Boy

Our pastor had written that while I was up and John got a kick out of it. This April, that same pastor will be performing our ceremony and I still have that silly blue napkin. I just have to figure out exactly where it will be, but that's my blue!
