I am definitely following this tradition. My something new is my dress that my sister bought and my something borrowed is my MILs headpiece from her wedding. My mom is trying to find her handkerchief from her wedding as my something old, and my dad is in charge of something blue

Yes. Old: a bracelet that was a bday present a few years ago; new: dress, shoes, earrings, etc; borrowed: my grandmother's bible; blue: piece of FH's dress blues sewn into my hem; sixpence: found on Etsy for <$5.

    eta: typos & correction

Not following this! The actual traditions are a little weirder than just borrowed and blue (seriously, look up the details) so I'm skipping it all.

Didn't do it. Neither did my Mother - almost 40 years ago. Traditions, superstitions, etc. are definitely not us.

@AMW, I don't find anything weird about these at all.

"Each item in this poem represents a good-luck token for the bride. If she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy. "Something old" symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past. "Something new" means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead. "Something borrowed" is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride. The borrowed item also reminds the bride that she can depend on her friends and family. Blue has been connected to weddings for centuries. In ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so purity was associated with the color. Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like, "Marry in blue, lover be true."

And finally, a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe represents wealth and financial security. It may date back to a Scottish custom of a groom putting a silver coin under his foot for good luck. For optimum fortune, the sixpence should be in the left shoe. These days, a dime or a copper penny is sometimes substituted, and many companies sell keepsake sixpences for weddings."

I did. And I loved that everyone in my bridal party helped participate to make it happen as a surprise.

I like the traditional reasons that you posted @Kimi.

Here's what I'm doing (so far):

Something Old: Not sure, it was going to be my stepmom's tiara but she has misplaced it. I still need to find something old.

Something New: Almost everything, but I'm calling it my necklace.

Something Borrowed: It was supposed to be my good friend's longline bra, but it didn't fit me. I was going to get an extender for the back so it could still be my something borrowed, but I found a bra I really like. So, I think I might borrow a bobby pin or something from my best friend.

Something Blue: My navy blue shoes.

A silver sixpence in my shoe: I am hoping to be a lucky recipient of one of Tina's pennies :-), if not I am going to order a sixpence from etsy.

ETA: I'm curious what the weird reasons are that you have heard, @AMW. Can you please share?

I guess I'm kind of trying to, but I'm not stressing about it either. All I have right now is my new (dress) and blue (garter).

Old: I have a dainty diamond watch that belonged to my great grandmother, but my ring is also old (belonged to FH great grandmother).

    New: Dress, Shoes,

Borrowed: Don't know yet! Maybe earings. I use to use take my mom's light pink shimmery eyeshadow as a child and I came up with the idea that I would wear it on my wedding day, so I kept it. Maybe that could be my borrowed,,,

    Blue: Wedding garter

I am! I adore this tradition.

Old: some of my mother's silk flowers will be added into my bouquet

New: my dress and most of the accessories

Blue: soles of my shoes / hidden blue diamonds on my engagement ring

    Borrowed: my mom's bracelet

And hopefully a sixpence, if not I'll probably buy one on etsy or put a penny in my shoe.

I followed it! Not because of bad omens, but I thought it'd be nice to follow a British tradition since some of DH's heritage is British Isles. I ordered a few sixpence from Etsy and have a few extra just sitting there, lol.

Blue: Bouquet ribbon, shoe rosettes, ribbon on my garter, etc. (our wedding colour was blue)

New: A necklace my mom made for me

Old and Borrowed: Two handkerchiefs my parents lent me.

Yep. And my sixpence is the year Albert and Victoria wed

Eta: my sixpence will be my sisters' borrowed at their weddings. It was $24 on EBay and in great condition.

Reta: my grandma was from England and I have a cousin from England who is attending so the sixpence was a big deal to me. Plus Albert and Victoria were really in love.
