Something Old, Something New, Someting Borrowed, Something Blue....

Kathryn, on December 12, 2013 at 2:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

And a silver sixpence in your shoe. If you are following this tradition, riddle me this....

1. What is your something old?

2. What is your something new?

3. What is your something borrowed

4. What is your something blue?

5. What is your silver six pence in your shoe (I'm thinking that equates to a nickel in the US?)

Me!!

1. My grandmothers earrings she gave me to wear on my wedding day

2. My dress and veil and shoes!

3. Mom will probably let me borrow a necklace or something

4. Blue undies!!!

5. I'll put a nickel in my shoe!

This was my blue, everything else was new. I didn't really care about the poem.

I paid way too much for the label too, and now I have no idea what to do with it, but I loved it at the time LOL

A sixpence is equivalent to 2-3 cents in US dollars. Random factoids we learn along the way. . .

You can find silver sixpence at any coin shop and some antique shops.

I only know my something borrowed will be jewelry from my Great aunt who hoards it and my something blue might be my Alice in wonderland dress. My theme is Mad Hatter Tea Party.

The american version is "and a penny in my shoe". Usually my friends do a penny from the year they or their groom was born.

My something old was my grandma's wedding band that I wear always on my right hand.

My something new was my dress

My something borrowed was a gold civil war coin that I pinned to my bouquet, my great grandma, grandma & mom each carried it on their bouquets too

And my something blue was my VS undies with 'Bride' on them

I didn't do the pence in the shoe

My something old is my mom's lasso (rosary) and the coin dish the arras came in

My something new is the arras (coins)

My something borrowed are the earrings from my FSIL and bracelet from my aunt

My something blue is still being decided on by my other aunt

    Not doing the "sixpense"

I put a shiny penny from the year I was getting married into my shoe (taped it at the arch where I wouldn't feel it).

    1. The wedding ring NotFroofy gave me, inherited from her grandmother back in Wales.

    2. My shoes.

    3. The kiddush cup used for the blessing over wine, borrowed from a newly married friend.

    4. My garter.

    5. An actual British sixpence, from a time when the sixpence was actually made of almost all silver.
