Song help for seating parents (80's/r&r theme)

heidi, on September 4, 2014 at 2:38 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

I'm trying to find a song for seating our parents and grandparents before the ceremony, and I'm drawing a blank. We have an 80s/rock&roll theme going and I'd like to stay within that.

Groomsmen & Bridesmaids - "A Little Help from My Friends" by Beatles

Ceremony end - "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" by Natalie Cole

Announcements/Entering Reception - "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder

Cake - "Cut the Cake" by Average White Band

Serving Cake cont - "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies

Garter Toss - "You Sexy Thing (I Believe in Miracles)" by Hot Chocolate

Bouquet Toss - "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar

Can anyone help me out?

Those are such awesome selections! I love them! I'm no help though, I'm trying to figure this out myself!

I'm trying to stay in the upbeat mode. I really want the song selection to be fun. ... are there any songs for parents? Like, a "you raised me" kind of thing ... seriously, mind is not working. I'd like a song that could be particular for the parents, like the friendship song for BM/GM. The standard love songs are too bride/groom oriented for me.

    Queen "You're My Best Friend"

    GNR "Sweet Child O' Mine"

    Cyndi Lauper "Time After Time"

ETA: My advice would be Google "Alternative Father daughter dance Songs" to get an idea of something you like. Just by saying "alternative" means that they wont be sappy love songs like "Butterfly Kisses" or "I Loved Her First" and could totally apply to grandparents.

Its not from the 80's but "You'll Be in My Heart" by Phil Collins is a beautiful parent song. It actually makes me cry every time! Or maybe Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are"

Thanks. I'm going to try the "alternative" search and see what comes up

It does quite fit with our theme but, I think we're going with John Fogerty – I Will Walk With You. It has the parent-y vibe I was looking for. And my parents will appreciate the country feel.

My mom is walking in to BeeGees (a little older than what you are looking for though) "To Love Somebody" My FMIL is walking in to Percy Sledge "When a Man Loves a Woman"
