Song Request on rsvp Cards

Sara, on July 12, 2018 at 9:45 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13

Is anyone doing song requests on their RSVP cards? I've seen this a few times on Pinterest and thought it was a neat idea. I'm always afraid that people won't enjoy some of the music being played. I know it depends on the DJ, but it's nice to know what people want to hear. Is anyone else doing this or have ever heard of this before?

The wording would be something along the lines of:

"I promise to dance if you play _______________________________"

Side note: I'm not trying to FORCE people to dance. I just thought it would be different.

We wanted to do this, but unfortunately our venue requires we give a list to our DJ well before any of our invites are due back, and I don't want to send them out too early either.

Nobody will think you're "forcing" anyone to dance. I think this is a fun way to include everyone's music tastes!

We did this and its hit or miss if people even fill it out. Some people did, and some people haven't at all. We don't expect to use every single song, but we are using it to gauge our guests taste in music so when we meet with our DJ we can tell him what styles to play so that people will get up and dance. (for example we got a lot more oldies music than we were expecting so far, and way less Rap/Country than I was expecting). It's really more just for reference, we still plan to let our DJ have control over the set list and to play what seems to keep the crowd going.

I loved this idea but it didn't really fit on our RSVP cards. We've been to many weddings with friends and family and we kind of have a good idea what they like to dance to.

We had the same experience as @Munchkin9218. I really couldn't tell you which songs were guest requests and which ones weren't, but we had a great DJ so he made sure to include songs that everyone could enjoy.

I think you might want to check with your dj first. Our dj did not allow us to do this. I was bummed about it but we’d already signed the contract. Essentially he said he ends up getting songs that only one person wanted to hear and no one else knows and then people actually end up leaving the dance floor. Idk if I believe him but it doesn’t really matter because we’d already signed our contract before we found this out

We're doing this but we're only playing music from the 80's, to match our theme. So the requests will all have to be from that decade, noted on the card for them. I anticipate that we'll get a lot of requests for songs already on our list... Bust a Move by Young MC and You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive.

I'm allowing guests to make requests through my website. I'll compile all of the guest requests (I have about 35 so far... just from three people) and give the list to the DJ and let him use his discretion. That's one of the things I'm paying him for, after all.

I think it's a cute idea, but we didn't do it. I didn't want people to be disappointed if the song they requested wasn't played. I told the DJ that it was OK to take requests, and to use his best judgment whether to play the songs or not (as long as they weren't on my do-not-play list). He said the only one he wasn't sure how it would go over, and so didn't play was Ganghnam Style, lol.

People danced almost all night (except when dessert was served in the other room) and we got a lot of compliments on how good the DJ was.

We did! Since we don't have to have people pick out what they are going to eat before hand we added that instead!

Here is our actual RSVP that we had printed!

I was going to do this, but my DJ talked me out of it.

In his experience, when this happens, most couples will put their first dance song and 90% of your song list is slow sappy songs that don't keep people on the dance floor.

Another concern was flow. He wanted to make sure the evening progressed and went smoothly, and sometimes the songs people write don't really flow together.

    So we nixed the idea.

We decided to put a song request on our Wedding Website. Our music theme is Throwback Jams (We've talked to our DJ about it and he is on board), so we gave the option for our guests to tell us their "favorite 90s or 00s song to jam to." We don't expect everyone to respond, but it'll be a good way to get an idea for what songs from that era our guests will jam out to.

    I won't give this option.
As a wedding guest in the past, I completed a song request. During the wedding, I had no memory of what I requested. The p eople, music and events of the wedding were more important than if my song playe d!
