Song to walk down the aisle

Katie, on December 1, 2017 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hi WW! My fiance is a teacher and has asked the strings teacher at his school to play at our wedding for ceremony and cocktail hour. She will be playing a violin accompanied by a friend who will play the cello. I believe we want a really sweet song for the processional and obviously it wont have any words. Does anyone have any suggestions?! I need help on a recessional song too and it can be really upbeat! Thanks so much all!

Hi Katie! My FH picked out an acoustic version of "Georgia" by Vance Joy and my favorite part of it is the violin. It absolutely is breathtaking. Could they try that?

If not, is there something your FH likes which made him pick the strings at his school?

There are so many, we are having a string quartet and found lots of options just by looking on YouTube for instrumental wedding songs. Keep in mind if you are looking for them to learn something contemporary or new there could be an extra charge.

I walked down the aisle to "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele. I have heard a string version of that and it's lovely.

I'm a professional violinist and play lots of weddings. Most musicians are willing to work with you on whatever pieces you want but they may require you to find and purchase the music especially if it's an unusual or popular song (not classical and apart of the normal wedding rep). Just a personal opinion, some songs do not flow well or sound good performed by string groups- the arrangements can be a bit cheesy. For example, one bride asked my quartet to play "Don't Stop Believing"...the arrangement was not great and it's just not the right kind of music for string quartet. I would recommend talking to the musicians you're using for their opinion and what they feel comfortable with. Slow and pretty is always a great way to go when choosing music for strings. Good luck!
