Songs for Catholic weddings

Jesi, on August 21, 2018 at 4:08 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11
I have a question. If we are not having a full Mass, what if any songs do I need to pick out for the mass? This is for a Catholic wedding ceremony. Thanks so much in advance for any help provided!

I think you would get the best advice on this by asking the coordinator at the church. They probably have a list you can pick from and I am sure they will not allow you to play most secular music.

Lol, that's my biggest problem. Our priest is currently in Nigeria visiting family. We were given the name of a woman who would help us through the process and were given her phone number. Unfortunately, her phone number is no longer in service and is not up to date. I've tried calling the pair of secretary several times to get an updated number and am having a difficult time reaching anyone.

Processional, recessional, if you're having any sort of "unity" ceremony - maybe something for that if its after the entrance, psalm between the two readings, gospel acclamation if you have to pick that out.

The coordinator at your church can help with this. Should still be an intro and exit song at a minimum

My nephew had a catholic wedding without mass and there were no songs other than the processional and recessional. At my daughter’s full nuptial mass last month the only additional song was Ava Maria during the veneration of Mary which was sung by the cantor. My youngest daughter is also having a full nuptial mass. Both my daughter’s were given booklets that had the order of mass and direction on what readings, prayers, etc. they needed to select as well as a list of approved readings and prayers. Have you completed your pre Cana classes? I believe that’s when they were given the booklets. They are not marrying at the same church, but are in the same diocese, so I’m not sure if that’s a diocese thing or coincidence that they both received the same ones.

Yes, we have completed the pre cana classes. Unfortunately, we never received any booklet. Smiley sad I was raised Catholic because my Mother was but my father is Baptist. My mother passed away when I was 21 so I'm kinda at a loss for guidance as to the in's and out's of a Catholic wedding. My fiances family is not Catholic either so I'm kinda flying solo.

This website might help. It has layouts for various ceremonies with and without mass. Also try asking to speak to the Liturgical Director at your church if they have one. I hope you get help soon!

Some parishes have wedding "rules" including approved music on their web site. Have you checked there? I usually have the best luck Googling the parish name wedding music - St. Francis Orlando wedding music.
