SOS: I tried to take off my own fake nails.

EmilyJ, on April 24, 2016 at 11:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Omg. Ohhhh my goddd

How do I get the rest of this off?

I wanted a fresh set for my wedding, plus the whole broken finger thing...

I clearly can't handle having nice things.

Soak your nails in nail polish remover with acetone for a few minutes, the acrylic will start to soften and you can scrape it away a little at a time. You can also go into a nail salon and they can do it for you, it's usually not very much and they will be able to file and buff your nails as well so they won't look damaged.

You need pure acetone, not the cheap kind you get in the $1 section. Soak, soak, soak!! Or go to the nail salon, where they'll basically do the same thing except they speed up the process

I've had this once before. You need a 100% acetone nail polish remover. I soaked mine in it and eventually it will soften and you can scrape the rest off with like an orange stick. Not fun, it's not easy but it will come off! Good luck!

Definitely pure acetone to soak them in. It's going to seriously dry your nails out though.

Agreed with PP pure acetone. Sometimes you can soak a cotton ball in acetone and wrap it around the nail and let it soak that way so you don't get raisin fingers. You can also use cuticle cutters to help lift the last pieces of acrylic off your nail. Gently slide a side under until it lifts and wiggle it to continue lifting. I used to take my own acrylics off all the time. I couldn't stand when one would break or lift.

Call a nail salon. It's a pain on the ass to get off by yourself and when you get it off you will have huge divits in your nails. Go to a salon and have them buff them for you

Soak them in pure acetone like pp suggested. Make sure you use a moisturizer with vitamin E in it. Your nails will need to recover and heal.

Can you go to the salon? It will be worth it to get them off by a pro.

I would have a nail salon do it. I've taken my own off before and it only made my nails thinner and weaker than if a professional were to do it.

Make sure to moisturize your hands and use a cuticle cream or oil after! Acetone dries out your skin.

Get pure acetone. Dip half of a cotton ball in the acetone. Place it on top of your nail. Now wrap the nail in foil. Let it sit for a bit. When you take off the foil, the acrylic should be so soft you could scrap it off easily with a cuticle pusher =)

This is exactly why I go back to the salon to have them take them off. I'll peel them off and butcher the nail. I'm right there with you.

Don't do this yourself. Take it from someone who has had acrylic nails for 5 years. Taking them off yourself will do way more damage. But by the looks of your picture, you don't even have the nails on. Those are your nails. They are split and shredded because you pulled them of.

Soak them in acetone then scrape the rest of it off. After that use cuticle oil and lotion on your hands. You don't have to go to a salon to get the rest of it off. It's just for convenience. I've been professionally doing my nails for a while so I know.
