Spam call/ gift

Mary, on September 22, 2020 at 2:24 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

I received a call from a number saying I won a gift from the previous bridal show I was at. It was an all inclusive vacation, wedding rings, and Champaign glasses. Just have to sit through their cookware show... has anyone else received this call? Is it a scam? Has anyone followed through with it?

I’d say scam. They’ll probably want you to buy something and then it’d take forever to get your “prizes” and they would probably be super cheap items

I’d say scam too. Probably high pressure sales people who have access to the wedding expo directory who will put you through multiple rounds of sales pitches to convince you to buy things you don’t want/need in exchange for whatever vague gift they are promising. My friend did this in Vegas for free tickets to Blue Man group tickets and wasted about half of her day in sales pitch sessions. They really made her feel bad for saying no to all their pitches. I wouldn’t bother with it.

I agree. This sounds scammy. I had text messages come to me like that and even though it sounded amazing, I blocked them. Better safe than sorry.

I would pass on that. Sitting through a high pressure sales pitch isn't worth it in my opinion.

My bridesmaid actually won this when we went to a bridal show and we ended up never going to claim the prize but I think it’s just a lot of advertisement and kind of like a scheme to try to get you to buy things and even if you get the prize I’m pretty sure you have to pay a bunch of other fees and stuff

Having gone to one, and then my Ex bought the dang cookware... DON'T DO IT.

Mostly a scam, in terms of being a heck of a lot of hard selling, then they rope you into payment plans... that you can't get out of... or transfer... or anything.

So I went to it because I figured what’s there to lose? A couple hours of my time? And what’s there to gain? Possibly gifts. Thankful I went! It turned out not to be a scam. I received all my vouchers! I did have to sit through a sales pitch, but wasn’t forced into paying a single penny for them.
