Spandex chair covers vs. cotton covers

Caitlin, on April 10, 2019 at 11:29 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9
Hi! Any input on chair covers? They can be pricey. I saw some cotton (normal?) chair covers. (I’ve attached) but so wrinkly. Has anyone had success ironing them?
Also, anyone like the way spandex chair covers worked?

I'm sorry I'm no help. My tables are picnic tables with the bench already attached.

Are the covers necessary? What do the chairs look like underneath? Can you rent chairs that are already elegant looking?

What are you doing for centerpieces and colors?

I have a degree in fashion and have studied fabrics to the Nth degree. Lol! Cotton is a natural fiber and will breathe whereas spandex will be hot and might get static electricity. Just something to think about. If you have the cotton ironed with " Magic Sizing" it will be nice and smooth. You'd need help, though.

Trying to picture spandex chair covers in my head and I'm not sure they really match a typical wedding style. The cotton covers in your photo don't look like they've ever been pressed. They look like they still have the creases from when they were packaged.

But like a PP said, why do you have to cover your chairs? Of all the weddings I've gone to, I don't remember chairs at any of them. I know we had chiavari chairs but I couldn't even tell you the color. I think they were just stained wood, but they may have been gold. I wouldn't worry too much about covering them unless they're stained up or something.

I really don't care for chair covers and think it usually calls attention to an area you probably don't want attention drawn to. I agree with PP that if the chairs are stained then it makes sense, but even then I would look into renting chairs rather than using chair covers.

I'm not a fan of chair covers either. Unless they are mandatory at your venue I would skip them altogether. Like one of PPs mentioned, many fabrics are hard to maintain or not easy to use. Do you want 100 wrinkly chair covers? The price you'll pay for rentals could be better used elsewhere.

At my venue, they have the black folding chairs with the built-in seat cushions. The black will stand out against the white tablecloths but once everyone is seated and the lights are low no one will notice. It wasn't worth paying $5/chair for 350+ chairs for me to rent covers. If you want to jazz them up, I've seen people do some really creative stuff with tulle.

I was looking into chair covers too bc I didn't like the white folding chairs for our outdoor wedding but honestly after I looked at the cover options I decided I like the chairs better than the covers. I found some cool decor you could do on the chairs with lace and burlap...

So I’ve been to receptions that have had both (one or the other). The cotton wasn’t wrinkly (at least I don’t think or didn’t notice) and was kind of comfy. The spandex is a nightmare. I actually ripped one cause it was so thin and stretched out. I’m not a fan of covers to begin with but if you’re going to do it go with cotton and don’t worry about ironing them. Way too much work for most guests to not even notice.
