Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace

The Bride, on August 17, 2019 at 4:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18
Would you and/or your spouse be upset if someone (i.e. wedding party member, family member, friend) spoke up during your wedding ceremony when the pastor/officiant says "speak now or forever hold your peace"? Why or why not?

Of course we would be upset. They’ve had almost 2 years to say something if they think there’s a real problem. We’re excluding that part from our ceremony anyway.

It depends on what they said. I have some goofy friends so I could picture one of them being like “I object! I wanted to marry them first!” or something along those lines just to add some humor to the ceremony.

If it were a valid concern I’d be upset but it would depend on what they said. I love and trust all my guests, I’d want to hear what they have to say.

We didn't even have our officiant say this. I don't really understand this saying, but I think if anyone had had an issue, it would've come up before the wedding day. If not, it's kind of awkward for everyone. I can't really say as to whether or not I'd be upset as I would have to know the reasoning for the objection. Thankfully, everyone in our lives sees us as a perfect match Smiley smile

I would be upset. If someone has a problem with anyone's relationship, I think their wedding is an inappropriate time to express objections

We had our officiant skip over that part. We knew some of my family members had "thoughts" about our wedding/marriage so we didn't even give them the opportunity

My husband and I also excluded that part from our ceremony. In our case, our family and friends had 7 years to discourage our relationship.

Good point, I guess it would depend on what they had to say.

I agree with you, unless it is pertaining to some information they literally just found out.

Wow. Do they approve of your marriage now that you are 2 years in?

Nope. A few family members are convinced he’s going to disappear after we have our 3 year follow up with USCIS. He’s going to stick around. He doesn’t know how to make mucequa or arroz con gandules like me 🤣

We won't be having this said at our ceremony. We're also eloping, just FH and I so if anyone objected it would be a "wedding crasher" especially lol in which case we'd probably just laugh.

Two reasons. 1. Cost factor and 2. I realized when we first started wedding planning when we first got engaged, I'm incredibly indecisive. We've set a date and booked a venue (deposits down and everything) twice and both times I ended up changing my mind (luckily we were able to get our deposits back. They were really understanding!). Eloping just made sense to us. Plus, we get an incredible view we wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise had we planned a destination wedding with friends and family.
