Special dance

Brittany, on March 17, 2021 at 12:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hey everyone, I lost my dad 3 years ago and planning the wedding without him has been tough we had to postpone last year due to covid. I would like to do a special dance at the reception with my brother in his memory but not sure how to do about it or ask the DJ to announce it. I am stuck between you should be here by Cole Swindell and even though you’re leaving by Luke combs for the song

First, I am so sorry for your loss. That must be just extra hard during these planning stages and my heart goes out to you. Second, those are both absolutely wonderful song choices and this is a lovely idea. Third, I think it would be nice if the DJ announced it, especially as the father-daughter dance is normally announced. Instead of the typical, "And now the bride and her father would like to share a dance," maybe they could say something like, "In honor of her late father, the bride would like to share a special dance with her brother."

I absolutely love this idea!!! I would have your DJ announce something like "Our bride (or your name) will now be dancing in honor of her father (your father's name) with her brother, (your brother's name)." Keep it short and sweet, have it be in honor of your dad and have the song and your dance say the rest.

I love both of those songs a lot but personally think Cole Swindell's "You Should Be Here" is a perfect match. I cry at every father daughter dance I witness and I know I would be a mess if I saw this dance happen. Smiley heart

I would have the dance either right before or right after the mom son dance. I like the other posters ideas about how it would be announced.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry for your loss. That Luke Coombs song brings me to tears every time, actually just reading the title and having it in my head makes me tear up. I think this is a beautiful idea. Can you talk to your DJ about how they would go about doing this? We are dedicating a few songs to our grandparents who have passed and our DJ said he knows how to handle it as he's announced them before. We just provide him with the information he needs to make the announcement.

Your DJ could say something like, "The bride will be sharing a special dance with her brother in place of a father-daughter dance in loving memory of her father." Something like that.

Go with the Luke combs song it’s beautiful. A good idea too is to dance to a song that give you a loving memory of your dad. I’m so sorry for your loss but he is definitely with you especially when your thinking of him.

Thank you everyone for all of the wonderful suggestions, unfortunately a lot of people have told me its a bad idea and i should not make it a memorial for him and cause people to be sad, so i am very conflicted on what to do
