Special Dances/"Games" at reception??

Kassie, on April 14, 2015 at 1:46 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

I just read in another post something about an anniversary dance, what is that?? In my mind, it's like a game type things where all the couples start out dancing and then they slowly trickle off as the DJ says amount of years married and then the last couple standing is the one that's been married longest?? is that right?? What "games" or dances are you having at your wedding? I'm thinking about doing the shoe game (which one is the best cook, bride/groom raise shoe of which of them is, etc) bouquet and garter toss, and the usual dances.

Yep that's what it is lol we're doing ours to the Celine Dion/Peabo Bryson version of Beauty and the Beast :-) I think the shoe idea is so cute but our wedding is gonna be too busy for that one. We're gonna have a photo booth and my brother is a really talented street magician so he's gonna perform during cocktail hour and I'm thinking about including a note in my program to be on the lookout for hidden mickeys like they do at Disney World which isn't a game exactly but could be fun idk

@Cassidy- You should TOTALLY do Hidden Mickeys!! Smiley laugh FH's family is a bunch of Disney fans (ETA: his 2 uncles go to Disney World at least once a year, and get to do special behind the scence type stuff, we always get awesome Disney souvenirs for Christmas!) and his gma has hidden Mickeys in her house! Smiley laugh I plan to have a photobooth too (not sure about if I want a pro one or a DIY one, I guess I'll check with my DJs bc some provide one or have a way to rent one??)

@bridetobe- A line dance would be fun! Smiley laugh I love fun dances Smiley smile

We're hiring in a piper with a troop of Highland dancers to provide entertainment for about 20 minuyes. Other than that, there will be our first dance and FH & his mom's dance. Absolutely no garter toss, no bouquet toss. I don't have anything else lined up...just good party music and drinks.

I'm planning on having all the line dances (I love them!), the father/daughter dance, and our first dance... Maybe a last dance. I was also thinking of maybe putting crosswords or mad libs or something on the tables for people who don't want to dance, or during breaks. We love doing those together, it's kind of our thing.

@Jackie I love the idea of having table games. I'm a sudoku/crossword/logic puzzle addict

    -Our First Dance

    -Father Daughter Dance

    -Mother Son Dance

-Special dance for my mom and brother (who is my only brother and Autistic so my mom would never have had a Mother Son dance otherwise)

-Shoelywed Game (our guests loved it!)

I wanted to do the anniversary dance but not sure if it's appropriate. My parents are divorced, FMIL is recently widowed, and we have 5 other couples that are widowed. It might make for an emotional moment.

Yeah thats pretty much what it is. Theres the shoe game where the DJ asks the couple questions. Also theres a similar game where they ask the bridal party questions and they raise paper mustaches and high heels on a stick.

We're having a huge Jenga, bags, and maybe a couple other "lawn" games. Our reception is indoors, but it's huge so we'll have the space. FH doesn't dance so it's something to make sure the "non dancers" are still having fun.

@Trisha I read your post and my first thought was you should totally listen to "I Don't Dance" by Lee Brice for a potential wedding song but then I remembered you're the one who said you're doing I Wanna Grow Old With You and that's way cuter lol

To get people on the dance floor our DJ suggested we have a "Dance for Luck" to the bride and groom. I thought it was a great way to get people out there without having people fall into a "category".

Haha yep! Aaaand not only does FH not dance, but he dislikes country. He just listens to what I call "angry German music."

I on the other hand LOVE that song. My dad also doesn't really dance, so I was thinking of maybe doing that for the father/daughter dance.

My bridesmaids and I are doing a choreographed dance to "Shake It Off", we hired a choreographer to put one together.

Our reception is Firefighter themed because we are both on the dept together. Our first dance is to Keith Urban's "For You" which is a tribute song and I'm making a FF tribute video to show on the wall behind us while we dance <3
