Special treatment for being newlyweds?

I got to hang out with my wonderful bridesmaids this weekend. And they were saying that when I go on my honeymoon, I need to show that we are newlyweds because we'll get special treatment. So for my married ladies, did you get anything special from your airline for being a newlywed?

I've only seen it at Disney lol but I've haven't heard about it else where. Never hurts to try though! A lot of people will call ahead of time and tell the hotel it's your honeymoon, some hotels with do upgrades if available or champagne in the room.

I went to Vegas for my birthday one year and the hotel gave me a free bottle of champagne! (not even a special birthday, and birthdays are SO not important--literally everyone has one EVERY year lol).

Anyway! My point is people are inclined to upgrade you or give out freebies if they know your trip is special to help make it memorable. Can't hurt to try! And like others have said, the excited "congrats" from others is a very nice perk!

I'm obviously not married yet but I've gotten special treatment for being newly engaged or bachelorette partying. All at wineries! We went on a Napa wine tour the day after getting engaged and our guide told everyone we just got engaged. All of our tastings were comped and some places gave us extra pours. I just had my bachelorette party this weekend and we did the Pocono wine trail. I only wore my silly party veil into one winery. It was the right one because they were so sweet and gave me a free bottle to take home. It looks like wine tasting is a theme for me! While I wouldn't expect anything, I think if people know you are celebrating something very special they are more likely to give you stellar service or any perks they can give.

@winterwonderlandbride your status AND the situation gave you the upgrade...and probably status more than the honeymoon itself!

Always a great idea to tell the hotel but couch it in a way that says "we aren't expecting anything, but anything you could do to make our stay more memorable would be appreciated!" It doesn't come off as demanding...and please be gracious if the answer is no. With this is mind, ALWAYS book what you will be happy with at a hotel and don't pick lower category room and assume because it's your honeymoon you will be upgraded.

As someone who has worked the front desk and moved their way up to a corporate role in hospitality, there is nothing worse than someone demanding something they assume they should get for free. I'm a former Disney CM as well, and I can assure you that much of the "free" stuff at Disney goes away because it stops being special, starts being demanded, and then people start complaining they aren't getting the special item or lie to get it. You'd be AMAZED at what people will do or say to get stuff. Super sad that the antics of a few end it for the majority.

Sorry, not trying to be a Debbie downer, but as someone else said make it organic - the shirts (or Disney pin and bride/groom ears for those going to WDW or DL) are cheesy but a great convo starter, and can absolutely lead to an unexpected suprise, but please don't ask for it!

Wear the shirts. It's not tacky - it's cute that you're proud! If free things come out of it, great. Smiley smile We definitely will try.

    We got squat!!!

In fact we were not seated together on our flight to London for our honeymoon...a 6 hour flight less than 24 hours after getting married...and nobody would switch seats with us until I literally cried in the aisle lol.

After reading this thread I just went and bought this shirt on Amazon - it's so cute! We are going bar hopping in Cozumel 2 days after the wedding, I'll wear this and maybe get a few free drinks!

H asked for upgraded seats for our flight, he's usually successful when he's flying alone, he even mentioned our HM, but the gate attendant said he had to call some number. So while H was calling, the gate attendant gave the seats away.

We got free drinks on our flights (we had our wifey and hubby shirts on) and our hotel room upgraded to a top floor suite w/ view on the quiet side (on check in they asked us about our stay and I told them it was the last night of our honeymoon - instant upgrade).

We're planning on wearing our "Hubby" and "Wifey" shirts on the plane. FH objected at first but I told him maybe we'll get upgraded or free drinks or something, then he agreed. Lol :-)
