Spin-off: Attention Whores (are we allowed to say whores still?)

A recent post got me thinking about the attention whores of the world, esp on social media, and especially those who give weddings/wedding planning a bad name because they make it seem like everyone engaged/planning a wedding are just out seeking attention. On Monday FH sent me this picture...

A recent post got me thinking about the attention whores of the world, esp on social media, and especially those who give weddings/wedding planning a bad name because they make it seem like everyone engaged/planning a wedding are just out seeking attention. On Monday FH sent me this picture (attached- see "show off") "always getting engaged." How do you "always" get engaged? That should only happen once (per marriage). The list is completely STUPID, but I know exactly who they are talking about (posting engagement pictures. Sun: "I said yes" Mon: "this was the best day of my life" tues: "so in love" wed: "can't believe I'm getting married" thur: "650 days until we say I do" fri: "649 days until I marry my best friend"). Those ppl that post about the same thing all the time to get attention. My personal least favorite are the people who go on vacation (and are back from vacation) and post one vacation picture a a day.... seriously. Share your least favorite type of attention whore-ness.

Gymrat - Me too. That's a great way to not get my support on anything. Also, can you please explain to my sister that she can just like things and not repost them all? She doesn't get it when I try SMH

Negative Nancy's all the way. I cannot stand constant negativity on my Facebook page! At some point, they have to try to make an effort to turn their life around and not be "poor me!!" all damn day...

I have a girl who posted a lot about wedding planning then it went to hating men who cheat (I felt really bad for her) then I swear within 2 weeks of her now broken engagement she's with someone new. Maybe I'm judgmental but you were just about to spend your whole life with someone how are u ready to move on in 2 weeks!

Oversharers, especially oversharing parents. I have unfollowed multiple parents after seeing multiple posts a day of the "adorable" and "beautiful" children.

@OriginalLaura, dog pictures are perfectly acceptable.

I'm not big on broadcasting your relationship on social media but it genuinely irks me when I have NOT seen one picture or post regarding a particular women on a man's social media and then she's pregnant or they are engaged and that is the first time she's seen or mentioned. UGH!!!!!!!!!!! True story: a guy I dated briefly in college came to where I live now for training for his job (I knew FH back then but we weren't official) and he hit me up on social media to ask if we could get together. I actually agreed, but then it got too late so I later declined. Well he went back to his hometown and that very next weekend he proposed to his now wife of 3 years. I WAS SO ANGRY. I can't believe he'd ask to meet up with someone he use to date while planning a proposal to someone else. I recently had another fb friend post a picture of him and his "girlfriend" who is 5 months pregnant but never seen or mentioned her before. I feel like those kinds of guys do that to keep their options open. You don't need to have a 100 pictures of your gf, but 1, 1 if helpful for the rest of the world.

@FFW I know two people who always check-in at the hospital. Sometimes they don't even put anything! Then tons of people are posting what's the matter, what's wrong. Hours later they respond, oh nothing just visiting a friend. WTF?! *slap slap*

LOL @NenaBear - I have one better than what your sister does. Once I "checked-in" to a concert. Someone else was there too so she "shared" my check-in. She then writes, "hope you don't mind I shared your check-in post." I said WTF for?? No one can see it because I didn't make it public - only my friends can see it - go share your own damn check-in. WTF??? She's weird AF.

The vague posters take the cake!! "The worst thing happened to me today!" That's it! That's the post? And then 60 comments later they come back to tell. And it's nothing! I never bite! I never ask. I don't care.

And I hate seeing your big fat selfie head five times a day in my feed. Quit!

    Lol!!!!

I do not mind the food pictures *IF* the food is amazing. I kid you not I have someone on mine who posts pictures of boxed scallop potatoes and Kraft dinner like "made dinner for the hubby tonight, so yummy" I'm just thinking wth do you eat every other night if THAT is post worthy?

One of my latest annoyances is one of my fb friends who post screenshots of her and her friends' text message conversations. Its a bunch of inside jokes that no one but them will get, with the caption "OMG Ashley" "Sue is so crazy" its like WTF. No one knows what you're talking about.

@FFW FH and I have been together for 6 years - 7 by the time we get married. The reason we both stopped posting photos of each other is because it NEVER fails that someone asks us when are we going to get married. It's none of their damn business. Once, he shared a pic of me on my birthday. This GUY mind you said, "oh will you marry the damn girl already!" Really? REALLY?! I was so pissed. My birthday was about my birthday, NOT about our relationship. So I think FH and I share about 3 pictures a year now. Of course that's going to change when we finally decide to share the engagement photos and when the wedding rolls around. But in the meantime I'm done posting pics of us - thank GOD he and I are on the same page with that.

@audrey def have some fb friends like that, less the older I get. But yeah the box mac & cheese and baked chicken "wifey material" post.... yeah stop. In that category the worst offender is the guy i went to high school with he is always posting picture of his food, while it appears he is a decent cook his plating skills are horrible and the food looks disguising all mashed together.

@gymrat that reminds me of the girls (and some guys) who talk about themselves in the third person saying what a good wife/husband they would make. I have one friend (she actually eloped last year, so mission accomplished) but she would post pictures of herself with captions like "She should be somebody's wife" or "She is everything you are looking for in a wife." It was so weird, esp since she is younger than me.

Negative Nancy. I had a college friend who would always complain, literally every day (and really vaguely too, clearly fishing for people to ask her about it), then she posted something about "Why did this have to happen? My life was perfect and now it's ruined!" I honestly wanted to ask her at what point her life was perfect. Could she scroll back through her posts and show me even 1 positive comment from this brief period of perfection?

I honestly hate when people post so many grating pictures of their kids. I get it, you reproduced. You aren't the first, but here is a cookie if you stop.

This made me giggle. I think I've posted 2 times about my engagement, one to say I was engaged and one to say thank you to everyone that congratulated me. That was 3 months ago.
