Spinoff- did your first dance have meaning?

I love seeing what everyone else chose for their first dance. We're currently between Ben Folds "Luckiest" and "First Day of my Life by Bright Eyes. FH seems to think the first dance should have meaning and keeps saying he's going to make up a story about whatever we pick. I said not many couples...

I love seeing what everyone else chose for their first dance. We're currently between Ben Folds "Luckiest" and "First Day of my Life by Bright Eyes. FH seems to think the first dance should have meaning and keeps saying he's going to make up a story about whatever we pick. I said not many couples past high school have a "song", but he insists that we're the one couple in the world without a song of our own.

We do have an artist we both love, but his songs are not appropriate for a wedding (Butch Walker).

Is your first dance song something of significance, or did you just search for a song that you liked and that had lyrics that rang true to your relationship?

    Thanks everyone, I love hearing your stories of "your song." It seems like a good amount didn't have an appropriate "our song" either and just picked something they both liked. I'll be showing FH this to prove we're not odd ones out, and there doesn't have to be a story, even though it's nice when there is. :-)

    We are using "Steady As We Go" by Dave Matthews Band. FH has always been a huge DMB fan and even got me into them. We went to a concert together and we are going to another one this year.

    I really like the lyrics, especially the "if the road gets rocky girl, just steady as we go." FH and I have already been through quite a lot of challenging experiences together in our nearly 4 years (circumstances like the deaths of loved ones, medical emergencies, and just the problems that arise in stepfamily life). So I really do feel like we have survived a lot of storms together.

    FH and I don't have a song. What we did was go through lists of first dance songs and brainstormed some of our own. Then, we narrowed it down by length and songs we couldn't imagine dancing to. We finally got down to the final four. Then I pulled up the lyrics for each of them. I highlighted lines that were either not applicable to our relationship or just odd for a wedding (any negativity). You'd be surprised how many songs you think are romantic/so you until you pull apart the lyrics.

    It's a bit labor intensive, but what you end up with is a song you both enjoy that you know relates to your relationship.
