Spirit airlines ?

I’m looking to book flights for our honeymoon and Spirt has the best deal. Does anyone have any experience (good and bad) with Spirit airlines? We will be flying to Jamaica.

    No! Don't do it!

I flew from BWI to San Diego a month ago and had quite an experience with Spirit.

The actual flight/attendants are totally fine and perfectly nice. They are new aircrafts. I'm 5'5 and I could stretch out. But I'm "slim" (definitely not skinny but slimmer than average) and I could see the seat width being uncomfortable if you're slightly bigger than average.

To be honest, I don't mind paying to check luggage but charging a customer to print a boarding pass at the airport ($10) is freakin' ridic.

    My experience:

The customer service is HORRID! 2 hours before FH and I were to leave for the airport on the return flight home, they cancelled our flight. Mind you, this was a redeye to begin with. There were most likely no other flights out and we both had to work in the morning. They blamed the cancellation on Harvey (in TX - we were in CA) and said they couldn't get a plane to CA. We made it clear that that wasn't our problem and Harvey wasn't a 'surprise hurricane'. We went through 4 (4!) different agents and their supervisors to try to get compensation. We asked for 1. A flight leaving that night or early in the AM OR 2. If they can get us on another airline on a flight OR 3. A voucher for a hotel since we had to stay overnight OR 4. A refund on the "premium" seats we had paid for the return flight. Literally got read the same exact script from each person. No variance, whatsoever. And each time was a NO. So we went back to our hotel and eventually spent about $300 more than we originally intended all thanks to the poor planning at Spirit.

Bottom line, don't fly them. They don't care about you.

We even thought are putting in a review/rating on the BBB. Spirit doesn't care about that either so don't waste your time.

I agree with everything that has been said above...DO NOT FLY SPIRIT!!!

FH, FMIL, and I used them when we went to Puerto Rico last year. We boarded the plane with no issue (other than being charged for everything) and were backing up to leave when it felt like we ran over something. We immediately taxied back to the terminal and were eventually told there was a mechanical issue. We proceeded to sit on the plane for over an hour with very few updates. By the time we did finally get to the leave, we realized we would barely get to our next location to make our connecting flight.

As we approached, Spirit made the announcement that people with a connecting flight to (insert location) would get to deboard first - never mind the rest of us.

We hightailed it off the plane and were instructed to go to Spirits counter, meaning the one that you check in at. We had to leave security clearance and wait in line with people who had just arrived. The line was ridiculous, FH was getting agitated, along with several other customers. At some point, someone from Spirit called out several names, ours being one. They then had us step over to the side and gave us a meal voucher and said they couldn't do anything about our missed connecting flight.

We eventually got a connecting flight with another airline and had to book a room in San Juan for the night since we also missed our next flight to Vieques. We had to pay to transfer our missed flight to Vieques and ended up missing an entire day of our trip.

Spirits only compensation was the stupid meal voucher that we couldn't even use to buy alcohol to help ease our frustration.

I don't hate Spirit, but I also don't mind getting what I pay for.

If you can swing sharing a checked bag and cramming everything else in a backpack I think it's worth it for a 2-HR flight. The cabin is pretty uncomfortable for anything longer. They are not secretive about the fact that it's a no-frills airline... the extras are going to cost you extra.

People love to complain about low cost carriers. I’m just thankful we have a market now where lots more people can afford to travel and flying is no longer just the preserve of the well to do.

Spirit is fine if you're going away for a short period with just a carry on.

But if you're checking multiple bags or adding any add ons it will be just as expensive as a ticket at a larger airline. THe different is that Spirit calls it "A La Carte" which means you add what you need VS a larger airline where you pay more upfront but several things are included.

You don't save anything in the long run you just pay in increments.

No, just no. Delays, cancellations and tons of fees. I'd fly with them (maybe) but not for a trip as important as my honeymoon.

I flew on them twice, never again.. first time years ago I almost didn't make it home because they didn't have enough seats even though we all paid for a seat.. this flight was also delayed hours.. I took them again this past June and our flight was delayed.. as others said they charge for EVERYTHING! I only used them for a 3 hour flight and I still wouldn't use them again.

Spirit is horrible. FH has a friend that flies with them because they are low cost and he always has delays. The seats do not recline and they charge for everything. FH flat out refuses to fly with them despite the lower cost.

I agree that Southwest is a wonderful, low cost option depending on your location and destination.

I'm a Delta snob ... we're in a hub city and have so many choices that any other airline doesn't make sense

Don't do it!! Same with Frontier Airlines... flew each one time and will never do it again!!! They are BUDGET airlines for a reason. I almost always end up paying less on Southwest and they are great!! No baggage fees, still offer free pop/juice/water super friendly!

No!!!! Avoid at all costs. They cancelled my flight to Myrtle Beach at the last minute for my sister's wedding. We had to fly to Charlotte and my sister had to drive an hour out of her way to pick us up the day before her wedding.

I have not have good luck with Sprirt neither have my parents. Cancelled flights(twice) once rebooked 3 days later with only a $50 credit, lots of add on fees, always late, and rude employees at times. I wouldn't be taking the chance for a honeymoon, especially if you can't get a refund on hotels if they cancel your flight.

They have a very high cancellation rate. I personally wouldn't risk it.

Sorry to add to the negatives about Spirit, but I was stranded in Vegas for three days because they didn't have enough flight attendants to be on their planes.

Don't do it. I'd liken it to flying on a school bus in the sky. They are very crappy. So is Frontier.

I've only flown once and I heard awful stories and was really worried. It wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as I thought. They do charge for EVERYTHING! Picking your seat, printing your boarding pass, carry on and checked bags...

Don't! 3 separate people have had flights canceled due to computer issues. Took one 3 days to get rebooked.
