Sponsor? I think there needs to be more clarification on what you mean by sponsor. Like are you asking if people go to businesses and ask them to sponsor their weddings? I’m envisioning business logos on beverage naps Lol.

Asian weddings have sponsors where older relatives and friends of the parents pay for certain vendors, and they make it known to guests what they are doing. Weddings outside of those Asian cultures do not have sponsors as couples feel that it a breach of etiquette and privacy. And the general consensus of American couples and their families is that if you are old enough to marry, you are old enough to pay for the wedding yourselves.

Some vendors and magazine articles in the US directed at non Asian couples have at one point in time suggested asking them to display advertising at the wedding in exchange for fees reduced or eliminated. But that is seen as a faux pas.

Do the sponsors themselves make it known that they are paying for these vendors? How do they do that? Are their contributions voluntary or are they typically asked to pay? It is considered crass here to publicize or brag about a gift you’ve given.

If not for those elements I suppose it’s not all that dissimilar to a very close relative, for example a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle generously offering to pay for a vendor or vendors. Sometimes the couple will acknowledge them as co-hosts on the invitation. That’s perfectly fine, of course,
I’ve thankfully never heard of businesses offering discounts to advertise at a wedding.

I've known Asian weddings to have listed sponsors for the purpose of future marital counseling. They stand in support of the marriage, but do not supply funding. I would plan on budgeting with your own money so it's more stable. Anyone who offers to pay should be considered a possibility, but best not to bank on it. You never know if these generous people will have emergencies of their own before your wedding. Good luck.
