So I previously posted about trying to cut costs on the cake, thinking about doing a small 2 tier with a Costco sheet cake. I had accepted and become totally okay with the idea because I still got a small cake with a version of the design I loved. WELL today me and FH went one of my favorite cupcake spots in a local grocery store because we were in the are and haven't had one in a while. I never even thought to try there but we are able to get the 3 tier cake of my dreams for $120!!!!!!! Ordered it!! So excited!! Pinterest pic below, exactly the same except no ribbon and adding a border on each layer!

Similarly, daughter found a small independent cupcake shop to do her wedding cake. They were priced well below all the "wedding cake bakeries" she'd gotten estimates from (less than $4 a slice vs. $6-10 a slice). The cake and frosting were delicious, and the owner was willing to work with her on a custom blend for her frosting (she's really picky about food textures and finds most wedding cake too "slimey" -- to the point where it makes her gag). When she explained her issue, he suggested he'd do a mix that was 80% rich buttercreme and 20% whipped mousse. It gave daughter a thicker texture she could stomach, but was also soft enough to hold the design she wanted without cracking. Shopping small business can be an awesome option! Congrats on finding your gorgeous cake at an amazing price!
