Spotify out - dj in

PermaGrin, on April 28, 2022 at 11:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hello,

I caved - this backyard wedding was causing me so much stress trying to manage our timeline and create Spotify playlists for the dance floor we rented - that I hired a DJ/ MC. I cannot believe how much better I feel knowing that I do not have to handle these tasks - and my guests will get professional entertainment as well as everything else wedding related. The caterers are serving on high quality disposables - but I am ok with that Smiley smile

Thank you everyone for your HONEST ADVICE on how a DJ makes such a difference for even a 50 person wedding. It wasn't what I was hoping to hear - but what I needed to hear.

I think you all helped me create more of the magical vision I was hoping for - without the stress... now I feel like there is no way this will come off as on overpriced cookout. I mean my budget was already at the 28k mark - a DJ I decided was too important to skip. I was lucky because I hired musicians for the cocktail hour/ ceremony so they were able to get me connected to a DJ as well

Glad you caved. LOL I just cannot even begin to imagine fiddling around with a play list while trying to enjoy my own wedding. There are certain things that are just TOTALLY worth the expense.

If you dont mind sharing, how are you hitting 28k on a backyard wedding? What does your budget look like? And why choose the backyard with such a budget?

I'm so happy for you! We're also about 50 guests and I knew I absolutely had to have a DJ. Just because it's small doesn't mean I don't want to give those extra special people the best possible time! Luckily we got a nice discount from our DJ being a small wedding. 😊 And I think with the price tag you're at, it only makes sense to hire a proper DJ and have that professional experience. I'm sure neither you or I will regret it! 👍

Hi Absolutely - the location was changed as many of our family have caught Corona multiple times and we wanted to be outdoors- plus at the time we switched - our venue wasn't allowing dancing ... that has changed now - but I still prefer outside. Plus some of our family hasn't seen the house we bought during the pandemic.

Here are the big ticket items:

    Rentals: Tents/ dancefloor/ Tables& chairs/ lighting - 4k

    Bathroom trailer rental: 2500

    Catering - 4500

    Bar tender / alcohol - 1800

    Photographer - 2500

    guitarist for ceremony / DJ - 3500

    My dress / alterations - 4k

Hair/ make up for bridal party - 1200

I have also paid for my bridal parties attire as well/ decorations/ rings.

The reason to switch to the backyard wasn't to save money - I was well warned before switching that it would be the same or more - so I have found that to be true. This just means more to us than a transitional venue.

Love it - that is what I was thinking too - give people the best experience for the money already being spent! I feel much better now that that decision has been made!

I'm glad you feel like one less thing is off your plate on the day! A lot of our friends are getting married this year or next year and think I'm being excessive by hiring a DJ while they have chosen to create playlists to last the entire evening and have asked a designated person to press play/pause/stop so that the right ceremony songs play at the right time. I told them I completely understand why they are choosing to do that but what sold me on hiring a DJ is that they do so much more than play music. They provide microphones for the officiant, for toasts, they communicate when certain things are happening like cocktail hour in one area, time to move to reception area for dinner, end of the evening, after-party location...
